Forgive another rim/tire topic, but we all know how hard it is to find the perfect rims for our car...there always seem to be compromises!

I was all set to buy some silver OZ Records, but they were on close out and Tirerack sold out before I was ready with my credit card, so now I've got to find something new.

I've narrowed the list down to these:
1 - Kazera KZ-B 17x7.5-48mm 21.0lbs

2 - OZ Superleggera 17x8.0-48mm 17.6lbs

3 - OZ Record 17x7.5-50mm 21.0lbs (in Matte, not Silver)

4 - G-games 77-Wolf 1-piece 17x7.5-42mm 16.5lbs

They're all good for different reasons, but they each have drawbacks.
1 - Cheapest, but how's the quality?
2 - 8" wide and lightweight, but fitment will be trouble.
3 - The original wheel I wanted, but these are Matte, and I wanted silver.
4 - Lightest of the bunch, but lowest offset.

I'd be happy with the looks of any of them, so fitment and quality are the only things I'm really worried about.
Anyone have experience with any of the above wheels - either the brand or the size combination?

I calculated the estimated position of the faces to try and determine fitment. Assuming the mounting face is "zero", here is what I get for inner and outer face positions (larger number means either closer to fenders or closer to suspension):
1 47.25 -143.24
2 53.60 -149.60
3 45.25 -145.25
4 53.24 -137.25

Based on those numbers, the Superleggera is the biggest wheel and will be closest to both the fenders and the suspension (only 8" rim in my list). The OZ Record will be the furthest away from the fender and least likely to rub.

Car has Racing Beat springs, and fenders are not rolled, car color is black.

- Can I get away with a 235/45R17 on the Superleggera?
- Anyone have information on quality of the Kazera brand?
- Will the Superleggera look strange in the 17" size?

yeah i would bet that with a 48 offset that you could put those 235's on. greenuggs was running 235's on a 48 offset 17 by 8 inch rim.

he had to roll his fenders tho.

kazeras are Low pressure cast, which is good, many members have them i havent heard anything bad about them.

I've got Kazera's, no issues. They're light and cheap, and seem to be fine. I'm not sure I'd know much difference between cheap and expensive wheels though. As long as they dont' bend or something crazy like that, I'm fine with cheap-o's :D

Have you considered the ALT's in the Group Buy section? I think that's a great looking wheel for a great price.

Thanks for the tip to check out the Group Buy section. I had checked out For Sale, but forgot about group buys...

There were two ATL group buys in there, and both were for 18" rims. I'm trying to stay away from 18's because the roads are so abysmal here in Michigan, I'm sure to crack a rim if I got some cheap 18's.

I'm still leaning towards the Superleggera with some Goodyear Eagle F1-GS-D3 in 235/45R17. Whatever I get, I'll be ordering this week, so hopefully I can take it easy while waiting for the fender rolling tool and not have problems with rubbing.

So I went ahead and ordered the OZ Superleggera with the Goodyears in 235/45R17 from Tirerack on Sunday night. I got my confirmation email and it says the centering rings are out of stock and won't be in until Mid-may. Crap - driving on snow tires for another three weeks... :(

This morning Tire Rack calls me to talk about fitment issues with my order. I knew what I was getting into with an 8" rim and 235s, so no news there. Anyway, I mentioned that I tried to get the OZ Record rims, but they were sold out. He did a little searching on the computer and found two rims in Indiana, and two more in Georgia!

I immediately changed my order BACK to the OZ Record in 17x7.5 with 225/45R17 tires. Not only did this save me money, but he said the centering rings were in stock!

Long story short - my rims/tires shipped out today, will be here Wednesday! :drive:

Also, props to Tire Rack. Not only did they call me the morning after I placed my order, but talked to me about fitment issues, found the rims I wanted, and shipped everything out of the warehouse hours later. Sweet.

Rim porn!

Got home from work today and two out of my four rims were sitting at my house (the shipment from IN - still have to wait for the one from GA :irate:). I'm excited to have them, but angry that I've got to wait until tomorrow to install!

Do you think this offset is too much? :nana:

Is it just me, or do these centering rings looked used to you...

Looking good! I really like those. Can't wait to see them on the car. Congrats on choosing a great looking wheel.

Who says you have to wait? You can put them on either both front/back! :nana:
Then just take pictures of either the front/back profile... Hehe.. Saves you half the time to put the other two on when they arrive.. lol

haha...I thought about doing that for a minute...

Super-sticky tires on the fronts with snow tires on the rear would make for an interesting commute tomorrow morning!

But, if for some reason the GA shipment doesn't come tomorrow... :drive: Oversteeeeeeeeeer

I know most of this thread is me talking to myself, but here I am again :D

The GA shipment is late! :irate: I left work early today because it's been two days since the tires left the warehouse, but they weren't at my house! I called Tire Rack, and they said they're sure they'll show up tomorrow. That means I've got to wait TWO full days with only half of my rims sitting in the garage.

In an attempt to make this post somewhat useful: I weighed the new tire package and my old stock 16 / Blizzak package. Both came in at 44.6 lbs for some reason. I weighed them on my cheapo bathroom scale, so I don't necessarily trust those numbers...

well, in the words of shakira, "my hips dont lie." (da numbas are right for those wheels bro :()

your oz records are 21 lbs each, (same as stockers) and your tires are 26 lbs. (taken from tirerack)

so you should be at 47 lbs, actually,

and the stock rim and tire combo weighs

approx 47 lbs as well, with a 21.5lb rim and a 25lb tire. ( michilen stock, not sure how much those blizzak's weigh.

so, your scale's off by a few lbs, but you didnt lose any weight with that setup.

you DID however, get some nice looking rims, and 235's with a wide enough rim to actually use it :)

I got the 225/45R17 tires, not 235's, so they come it at 23lbs according to Tire Rack. So, in theory, I should be at 44lbs. All that air much be the 0.6 lbs :hoho:

Not losing weight was one of my big disappointments with this setup. I had one helluva time trying to find a good looking five-spoke rim, with the right offset, diameter, low price, and lower weight. I convinced myself that even though I didn't lose weight, I also didn't gain any - and I got a better looking wheel with a little more width, not to mention tires that are much stickier.

I have never bought rims before in my entire life (I'm only 26, but still), so this is pretty exciting. I'm was just surprised that at $200/rim, you're still pretty much stuck with a LP cast instead of forged. Getting something strong and lightweight really costs a lot more than I imagined.

Crap, these things rub. Had my fiance in the passenger seat and about 100 lbs of groceries in the back. Pulled out of the grocery store parking lot and heard a weird noise from the back. :headscrat:

Got back to the house and pulling into my driveway (slight incline) - same noise. :thumbdn:

Never heard "rubbing" before, but I assume that's what I heard. I ran my finger along the fender lip and it had fluid on it - must be the tire shine I put in the new Goodyears.

So crap. Didn't think I was going to rub. Does anyone know if Tireswap is still renting out the fender rolling tool? I posted into the rental thread on Mazda6Tech a while ago, but no one is responding. I really need to get this rolled because I want to autocross next weekend!

Bump!

Does anyone have any information on fender roll tool rental? All the signup threads are dead.
