Decided to change my oil today, using the 6 qts. of PU I got for $20 on Amazon last Dec. Everything went smooth until I tried to put on the new K&N oil filter. It didn't seem to screw on at all. Filter seemed to be defective, and it was the right one for my 6. So now there's no oil in the car, and obviously I can't drive anywhere to get a new filter. Luckily I'm within walking distance of a AAP, so I bought an M1 filter. Seemed to go on fine with that filter. I figured I 'd call K&N corporate and tell them about this, and they said they would send me a new replacement oil filter. Props to K&N for their excellent customer service.

The obvious statement is "it would be better if the quality operating system in the manufacturing plant would not allow a defective threaded filter out". They SHOULD replace it.
This is the second time in my 30+ yrs of messing with cars that I have heard of a defective oil filter "won't thread on".
Glad you handled it so expeditiously.

I usually switch back and forth between K&N and M1 depending on price, but this is the first time I ever had a problem. Then I started to think that there possibly might be a problem with the threads on the car, rather than the filter. I was relieved that it was only that filter.

Funny you mentioned Amazon and oil filters. I ordered a 6 pack of Purolator Pure One oil filters from Amazon. When I got them, I put one on and noticed just out of habit that the sticker on the oil filter did not match the part number on the box. 3 out of 6 were mislabelled, but all looked identical. I called Purolator and they said to send the filters back to them. There is a printed number code on the filter that tells them the batch and other information so they can track that batch. They sent me 6 a few days later. A week later, they send me another 6! Props to Purolator for their customer service.
