Hey Guys,
I have a 2004 Mazda 6 with de V6 engine, manual transmission. About 4 months ago i've changed the clutch from the dealer because i had to change it. (136 000Km)

A month ago, while I was at the stop sign, I tried to put the first gear but it did want to engaged + lot of noise from the tranny. So i've called the towing and the inspection reveals damage to the clutch it self and the transmission! When everything was down, they told me that the clutch disc was touching the bell housing, because the bellhousing is made of aluminium it has heated and expend so I could'nt clutch anymore, bearing had heated on the shaft. So i've changed the transmission & the clutch.

2 weeks ago, SAME PROBLEM, SAME THING. I went to see 3 different specialists, they never saw this before and could'nt explain what happened...

Transmission is new (8 000km)
Clutch kit is brand new (excedy clutch)
No loose on the crank
flywheel is perfect, no vibration and has been refaced each time.
Have you ever experience this kind of problem??

Is the throw out bearing not able to go back far enough to not touch the pressure plate?
Your last picture shows the clutch disc way out of center, did you just put it back on without centering it?

So, no vibration at all and has anyone checked the bellhousing to see if it actually properly centered with the factory dowel pins? This could excesssive side loads on the input bearing causing failure. This would be my first suspect.

I haven't done any mods on these cars, so clue me in on the differences between this clutch assembly and the factory?

Different clutch material and greater clamping force I would imagine, is there any dimesional difference between the two?

Hi DJ

I'm pretty sure the throw out bearing is working well, it's the bell housing touching the center of the pressure plate...
Indeed we centered the clutch with the special tool.
As for the bellhousing, the problem happened on the original transmission and the new one, so I don't think the problem is there... A specialist told me to chek if there was a gap on the crank while prying the flywheel = no gap at all...

2 first clutch assembly was the excedy kit, normally use by Mazda themselfs. The last one, I made some modifications on the clutch by making the heart (centre) more force (more springs, disc stronger) and cuting the center, flush to the springs so it can't touch the bellhousing anymore...

I am looking at your pictures again, is your clutch disc hub hitting your throw out bearing collar?
