Ok so I have a 2003 Mazda 6i without Bose and I was looking into upgrading my speakers but nothing to break my wallet too bad. I don't know anything about speakers I just want some fairly powerful ones but I don't even know where to start. Your help will be greatly appreciated

Go to crutchfield.com, they have good explanations, but their prices are a bit steep. They will give you step by step instructions on disassembling and reassembling your car, but you can find those on these forums as well.Use them for research and then go find the same speakers cheaper somewhere else. I bought half my stuff from Walmart(used to work there, got discount) and sonicelectronix.com, but I've used eBay before too with good results. I just shopped around and saved about $70

My only advice for you is if you are replacing the front speakers: GET COMPONENT SPEAKERS AND NOT COAXIAL SPEAKERS. The difference is that component have a separate tweeter and a separate crossover which yield better audio results. Crutchfield.com will explain all these terms.

Goodluck! Have Fun, and Enjoy.

Walmart Carries nothing but crap equipment in my opinion and their parts are even worse (schosch is a great company but walmarts line up is trash...again IMO)

If you want some good speakers for your car then we need more information about what you want out of it. Is there not enough low end (bass)? Are the highs not clean enough?

Personally I would say get ride of the 6X8 speakers that mazda uses and replace them with a 6 1/2. You will need to get adapters (Best Buy or crutchfield sell them online for like $20)

6 1/2 will give you much better sound quaility. While there are good/decent 6X8 If you are going for SQ (sound quaility) a 6 1/2 will always net you a better sound.

Random suggestions would be Polk Dxi good over all value for around $200. The tweeters are not over bearing and still get so good mid range sound. (understand that if you want more low end you need a sub. I personally have only listened to one set of speakers that impressed me with sub response and they were $499 not including the amp to run them.
