It seems as though it's about time to replace my front and rear struts. I've got about 143k miles on my 6, and AFAIK they have never been replaced. Firestone quoted $690 for parts and labor. I was wondering if that seems like a decent price. And as well, what would some other options be in the way of aftermarket struts? What would I be looking at for just an install cost do you think if I were to buy them myself?

Wow, not bad at all!
Main concern is that I have a 6i and those are off a 6s. There wouldn't be any issues with those working on my 6 would there? I don't really know anything about suspensions. I'm not really mechanically inclined, however I might have the opportunity to have them replaced by a dealership as a local mazda club is doing a tech day (completely spaced on it when I posted this). They might be able to do it...

You need two things: the proper tools to do the job, and a friend who has done the swap before. Granted you can probably figure the stuff out using the how-to documents (they're out there, seach) - but it will end up taking a lot of time and a lot of cursing. How much is your time worth?

I'd recommend having a Mazda dealer install it, if you go that route, as opposed to a local tire install shop ... the tire install shop may or may not be familiar with the install.

It will be the same for 6i and 6s.

You'll need a spring compress for the front and some general hand tools for the rest of the job.

If you're interested let me know. I don't come on here much since I sold the 6, so feel free to PM me any questions. :)

Alright thanks for the info. I might be PMing you about those springs in the next few days.

I would most likely have Mazda of Lakewood do it as I am going up there on the 19th for a tech day with Colorado Mazda Club :)

Sounds good. I'm in Florida, so if you go with my set you should plan on a week for shipping to be on the safe side. :)
