Try doing the air box mod before I bought a muffler and had it welded on. I wanted a new exhaust for a while until I found out about the airbox mod. Just make sure you take out the resonator, flap, and leave the tuba on. Love how my car sounds now. Not too loud and just enough growl when I floor it. I don't even have a CAI and I'm happy. I leave the exhaust systems and loud mufflers to the guys who have the money to build the engine and ACTUALLY go fast.

There's nothing funnier that a young kid in an import with a LOUD muffler flooring it and going nowhere at all.

Oh yeah, the lights are easy too!

Air Box Mod is a cheap mans cold air intake. Basically the stock air box has a flap and resonator reducing the intake of air and sound of the mufflers. You go in and remove them and wow, extra sound. I heard a big difference the first week or so, And now I hear it even more after about 2 months after removal (doubt it will get any louder though). See the url: Pure MPS. Mazda MPS forum. • View topic - How To - Air Box Mod

And search "air box mod" in the search box for more info

Cheap mufflers will never give you good sound. It will make your car sound ricey, fart cannon, etc. If you really want to find out what the mufflers sound like, checkout youtube for "mazda 6 mufflers". I like how the magnaflows sound, but I'm not going to put that on my car because my car isn't as fast as it sounds! So, I put on 3.5" tips on the stock mufflers and did the air box mod.

It's truly up to you what you want to do. If your going to do engine upgrades, get the magnaflows. Some say they are loud, others say they are just right. I did the air box mod (free) to see what it would sound like before I dropped the $400+ on a magnaflow setup. I'm happy with how it sounds, but I'm also 25. I don't want a 150hp Mazda 6 sounding like it's 500hp. I'll be buying a muscle car next with at least 300hp...then I'll put loud ass mufflers on it.
