Back in December I played search nazi in a thread requesting rear bumper removal steps. I could have sworn the pic below had been posted.

Well, darn if I can find it or any one even close, so I hope the below helps somebody in the future.

From the MS6 service manual, here are the steps to remove the mazdaspeed 6 rear bumper and exhaust trim.

Beware tho- threads like this one - http://forum.mazda6club.com/mazdaspeed6/236821-ms6-rear-bumper-install.html - and several others indicate the many many tabs to be dealt with are easily damaged.

It's a big son of a gun-
basically a print from the fsm, which generates high pixel images, above example coming in at 2,555 x 5,807 at 1,556.72 KB

It's not small.

I'll see about attaching it as well to provide an alternative.

Well, I couldn't attach with results I wanted, so I did what I should have done when posted (lazy bastid...) & processed the image a bit. Also added a direct link to the graphic while leaving the dimensions the same for the great clarity.

Should make life easier :)

i learned the hard way about the tabs...really you only need a ffew to hold it in place so a couple broken ones isn't a big deal. Also it did matter that I F'd with it since my exhaust melted the shit out of it.

Hell, I dunno, I'm still trying to figger out "Tab C"...

"Detach Tab C & remove bumper guard", but there is not a "Tab C" to be found anywhere in their pictures lolz.....

They sure do seem to indicate you can pull to remove. I've never had to pull that part, but if I did, I would slide up under there and take a damn close look first.

You should be able to remove the valance without removing the bumper IIRC.

The valance should only be held on with clips.

I will find out soon though as I will be removing mine to paint them as they are fading.

You will have this issue too. The new one will be black, old 1 grey. It looks stupid.

FYI Mothers back to black sucks.

I've considered however I know plastidip isn't so permanent. Maybe Plastidip then a cheap clear coat as a layer of protection?

Put something with a low burning point. Then make a video.

But seriously, really nice flat black spray paint? You'd have to sand and prep the surface, but it might last longer, I don't know.

That's what I think I will do. I'll do some materials searching

What's a good material for painting the side markers? Bumper front a rear, that is?

Krylon has had nice review for owners of the Chevy avalanche. That car is almost 100% plastic!!!

3 coats and no sanding or primer needed. Alcohol cleaning recommended.

I've really only ever used Rustoleum sprays, but then again, I'm usually doing furniture.

I used Testors for my models as a kid before I switched to airbrushing. Krylon just always seemed so cheap.

Go slow, and you'll probably avoid the uneven coat they put on their back bumper.

Agreed.

3-5 very thin coats will look good, I think.

I think the quality of the bumper, as in color, shine and depth look great, baring the unevenness. Lol-

Sorry for thread hi-jack but you will need to do this to if you replace only 1 valance. They are held on by clips so they should come off easy. Just be mindful that the clips are plastic and can crack.
