Other than the car running like @ss, are there any other, perhaps more subtle hints that a coil(s) may be failing? Also, what are some things to look for when inspecting them for faults? Lastly, of all the aftermarket OEM style replacements available are any better quality than others. Or are they actually all made by the same man. only labled with different brand names on them? Just looking to avoid CAT failures as it will be a while before I can do the header thing.

not really. if your car is sluggish and you can feel the misfires, it might be a good idea to change spark plugs and coils. You may want to try only the spark plugs at first, but remember if that does not solve the problem, then you have to open up (or pay to open up) the intake manifold all over again.
