I have a modded MTX 6i and was wondering if i could beat my friend with a stock MTX 6s. My mods are SRI, timing advance, vtcs delete, rear motor mount, magnaflow catback, lightweight enkei wheels, optimized throttle body, and tb coolant bypass. Is there any other mods i could do besides a turbo to make it faster?

Header, tuning, IM... But i'd save my money if i were you and either save for a turbo kit or a completely different car if your looking for ''fast''.

And i doubt you will beat your friend, actually you really shouldnt be able to unless he's a horrible driver.

Yea i am hoping to get a speed 6 in a few years once i save up some more money so i was hoping just to do some cheap mods on this car until i get another one. I am very pleased with the performance from the 2.3l engine with the MTX though. I just want that extra power. I was also looking at headers but f2 usa closed down. Do you know of any good header that is also inexpensive?

Thank you!

No chance. You will still get smoked by a V6, provided both drivers are relatively equal. Maybe you will come close to a stock V6 if you install headers, CAI, tuning, lightweight pulleys, racing clutch, etc. Even with your small amount of mods, I would imagine you are still 60+ HP behind the V6.

I wouldn't say smoked. My 1/4 mile times have gotten on par or faster than a 6s.

With my I4 I've been running 15.66 @ 88.40 MPH at the track. As you can see that's as fast or faster than some V6's (I have no turbo, all motor for that time). :D

You're right, probably not smoked. But then again, whether we are talking about a 4cylinder or V6, these cars are pretty slow relatively speaking. So, the difference between the 2 cars isn't going to be all that great considering they are both slow.

i still dont see why everyone always says the 6 is slow. when its faster or on par with the cars it was built to compete against.

if people would stop comparing the 6 to cars they have no business grouping them with, then you will realize they arent really slow

Thanks for all the responses guys. So besides a turbo the only mods left that are worth it is a header and tune. There is a autoexe one that is 4-2-1 which would prob have good gains but is also $1000+. I'm also still waiting on hypertech to release there tune for the 2004 6i. Since f2 closed down is there anymore options for a header that is affordable?

there's still quite a few options for headers. and pretty much anything else you want. there's not as much aftermarket as there is for the v6. but there's still tons. ive had no issue tossing a couple grand into mine. and im not done yet. lol

I think they are slow, it just doesn't feel like its put together that well. The "lag" or "hanging revs" between shifts annoys the crap out of me. How can i floor when everytime i release the clutch the RPM's climb well into the red zone?

The Mazda6 is comfortable and has some nice ammenities but it feels a little cheap. I've driven a multitude of cars, I just sold my honda s2000 and my DD 1998 volkswagen passat. The mazda6 feels "cheaper" than my 1998 passat, and A LOT SLOWER than my S2000. But I bought it because it wasn't expensive and a comfortable drive. But for a V6 there is no low end torque and the valve timing change is horrible compared to vtec.

I don't want you guys to take offense but the reality is that this car is slower than 80% of cars out there. A new I4 Camry would probably dust a V6 Mazda6, which reminds me... WHY is the mileage so bad for a car with such a weak V6???/ END RANT
