Mobil 1 ATF now includes both T-IV and Mercon V under the applications it is "suitable" for:
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF
I've never really understand why mixing Mercon V and the factory fill T-IV led to the Aisin transmissions being destroyed, especially since many of the quasi-universal ATF's list both specs on the bottles (redline D4, castrol multi-import, etc...). That said, the transmission fluid was changed on my '05 wagon before I picked it up from the used car lot, and for all I know they could have flushed out all of the T-IV and put in Mercon V. I'd never be able to tell by looking at the dipstick.
I'm planning on doing a drain and fill with each oil change since these transmissions are known to run hot. I was thinking about using a universal synthetic fluid, such as Redline D4 or Mobil 1, to avoid transmission failure related to the mixing of Mercon V and T-IV.
Has anyone run Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in their Aisin unit since it was reformulated to include the T-IV spec? It's a bit cheaper and easier to find than the Redline.
