Finally, my contribution here:

My first set of wheels: 16x6.5 and heavy!

I then went to this, which is what I wanted when I bought the car: the Euro look.

However, the 17's are stupidly heavy. Wanting something lighter, I went to 16x8 +50 FD wheels.

They rub with anything, even 225/50/16. It was then I learned that larger wheels fit wider tires because the sidewall bulges less; that's why 225/40/18 fits more easily than 225/50/16's.

The light, wide 16's were so damn fast, I bought a second set for autocrossing and mounted tiny tires on them. The car got really damn fast from an 8% gearing reduction:

Wanting something that looks better, I sold a set of FD wheels and went bigger. After all, all the "cool guys" here were recommending it. Here are 18x8 +50's:

They rub with 235/40/18's and probably 225/40/18's. They also are slow and stupid.

Thus, I went to nicer looking lightweight 16's. Here's the car with 16x7.5 +50's. I run these today, and still have a set of FD wheels to race on:

For the record, 18's suck and they will never go on my car again. I hated them.

The good wheel combinations are, in my opinion, 16x8, 17x8, and 17x8.5- with either 245/45/16 or 245/40/17 rubber up front. Rubber in the rear can be skinnier to aid in getting the tires to heat up evenly.

Here is the close (questionable?) fitment of 245/45/16 racing tires up front on 16x8 +50's:

225/50/16 in the rear on 16x8 +47 (I run a 3mm spacer):

Finally, this is why there is so much discrepency between what people fit on their cars:

Left to right, that's a 245, 235, and 225mm wide wheel. Which looks skinniest to you? Not that 225, that's for sure.

In conclusion, I've had many sets of wheels and tires. Anything other than stock has required a fender roll. If someone tells you otherwise, perhaps they are not running very aggressive tires.

OEM Wheels-Chrome dipped 17"s on Michelin Pilot 50's
TEIN 1.5 drop kit
Stock wheels have Negative offset so it helps to keep the space.
NO RUBBING Unless I put on 18's,then I have to go down to a 35-30 series tire to prevent rubbing with any lower offset.
I have another set of rims but don't have any pics with those ones yet...coming soon.

Kazera KZ-V 17x7 +50 offset with Avon Tech M550 A/S 225/45/17. Mazdaspeed springs. No rub. Had entire guitar setup in the rear hatch and took acouple corners and it didnt rub. I will probably roll the fenders anyway just to be extra safe but this combo is rub-free without a roll.

Not lowered...yet. MS springs are on the way. :)
