What do you guys think of the mazdaspeed cai?

i am thinking about purchasing a new mazdaspeed6 to upgrade form my 04 6s. since the dealers are really into bargaining, i am going to try to get them to give me a good deal on it.

are the other ones significantly better? i really dont plan to make any other significant upgrades. i really enjoy the sound my k&n makes now.

thanks.

you say that now, the spee6 is ripe for modification and the market is really warming up.

i opted for the xCel from CPE. i looked at the MS CAI, but it was expensive and not as well made as the xCel. now if you can get one for "free", thrown on the deal, i'd be all for that. but at retail prices, no way. the CPE is superior. someone posted a threat comparing each of the CAIs available with pros/cons/prices. do a search, it's in the MS forum.

edit: here are soms MS CAI threads found with search

In short, they are all pretty much the same. Some are prettier than others and have a better build quality, but all produce similar results.

The only significant advantage the Mazdaspeed CAI carries is the green warranty rating, and if your state requires it, CARB certification. None of the other intakes are CARB legal.
"green warranty" means that the part is covered for 12k miles if installed by the dealer.

Fujita & AEM are CARB pending (meaning they applied and are awaiting formal approval). Fujita said they will email the EO label upon request with proof of purchase (after the approval goes through of course). I would assume AEM would do the same.

According to RPM, the CPE has not filed for CARB so if you're in Cali, then you SOL or will have to do the de-install/re-install thing whenever you go in for emissions testing.

Has anyone actually bought one of these from Sabrina or anywhere. Also are there 2 different ones being sold as MazdaSpeed, because the pictures look different?? One has the MazdaSpeed badge where as the one on Sabrina's AZ site has no badge?? Is this MS CAI any less likely to produce a CEL than the Fujuta that is much cheaper?? The best one from CPE seems too expensive, but is widely reported NOT to produce a CEL. Would like to hear from some knowledgable folks before purchasing a CAI, The fujuta on E-bay seems like the deal. ?? I think my dealer is going to turn his nose up at any CAI... Please advise - Thanks.. :drive:
None of the Mazdaspeed 6 CAIs are known to produce a CEL.

I just bought the AEM. It has a carb number writen on it. so.....

I went by the dealer yesterday for a free oil change and they asked about the intake, wanted to here how it sounded, and that was the end of it. When I asked about warranty the said "its the same thing as the mazdaspeed what difference does it make." When you consider the green warranty only applies to the part you are installing not the whole car its appartent that mazda could care less about a CAI as far as warranty work goes.
They tell you that now, wait til you have a check engine light or a something similar, Mazda tech will red light you on the intake right away...I was forced to remove my intake and exhaust before they would even touch my car. So $150 later getting my stock exhaust put back on the car...the car was running rich, not lean, end result, bad 02 sensor...I was pissed, but what can you do...
very true. if problems arise that could possibly be tied to the CAI it's a good idea to swap the stock box back in before taking it to the dealer for warranty work.

The Mazdaspeed CAI from jimclickmazda (sabrina) has the Mazdaspeed logo on it. I just received mine, she is holding a group buy on them for $260. Same price as AEM and it says 'Mazdaspeed' so the picky dealers should have less of an issue.

Good to know that the new ones are coming with the CARB number on it. Previously it was CARB pending.

And as far as dealers go, like you stated, it's all about the invidual dealers. Some are pickier than others, and many won't know that the AEM and Mazdaspeed intake are the exact same thing.

Thanks 99!! Did you get good instructions?? You probalbly don't need them..??, but I would like some help/reassurance. Please let us know how the install goes. I'll probalbly order if you highly reccommend. Is there much of a chance of water/moisture damage? Did you see what I meant in that the pictures on jim c. mazda make it look different and with no badge visable?? I'll have to check again. Hope you get a noticable & sweet improvement.

The instructions are great, and yes you need to follow them. The breather hose was the only pain in the ass. I now prefer the 2 piece pipe over the one piece because of the breather hose, because it allows you to install the small 45 to the breather, then twist it into place on the intake hose.

SOTP, no different.
Sound wise... OMG.. you can hear the turbo suck, and the BOV blow!!! Love it.
Boost wise... It goes to 15PSI move often now than stock. I used to boost to 14 in 1/2/3 and 15+ in 4/5/6, now I boost to 15 in all gears.

I'll take a picture of the install tonight.

I bought one from Sabrina a few weeks back during the group buy and it's the one with the MAZDASPEED logo. No regrets!!! No CEL!!!
The install was easy and it sounds loud. Any of the CAI you mentioned above will provide plenty of fresh air.

For better quality buy the CEP, Mazdaspeed 2nd, AEM 3rd and Futja 4th (this is what I saw/read here in the forums).
The fujita works pretty good, but if you can get the mazdaspeed for 260 I wouldn't buy anything else, the dealer has no choice but to accept the car with that installed...

not true...if the Mazdaspeed intake caused an engine problem - you would still be on the hook for the bill.

for sure. the green warranty covers only the PART if installed by the dealer, or the PART if you remove it & return it to the dealer. or you can pay the dealer labor charge.

Green Warranty
MAZDASPEED "Green" Performance Accessories must be specifically approved by Mazda for their particular application. These parts are warranted for the first 12-months/12,000 miles from the date of purchase, excluding labor.
If the Mazdaspeed division is anything like the Mopar division of Chysler, then all parts, if installed correctly, do not void any other warranty. Reason: since you can order it through the dealer, and they should not allow you to install a part that would void your other parts.

That's what I was told by the Chrysler dealer about the Mopar parts I installed in my Neon. Hopefully Mazda/Mazdaspeed is the same way.
Thats how the mazda warranty reads to me...but the above do not agree...
