Feel free to move this mods. I know it is a newbie topic, but since this was something official, I thought this might be the best place for it.

This was MazdaSpeed's response to my question about if there was a MS CAI for the 2006 6i ATX:

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

In regards to your inquiry, there is no Cold Air Intake that's been designed for the 2006 MAZDA6i with an automatic transmission.

I'm sure that you can appreciate that an extensive amount of research and testing has gone into this accessory on the manual transmission. Unfortunately since this is office is not technically trained, I'm unable to provide you with specifics as to why this is not available on the automatic transmission. This is a decision our Engineering along with our Product Planning department made. There has been no mention as to when, or even if, there will be a Cold Air Intake for the automatic transmission.

Consumer feedback is always very important to Mazda. Rest assured I have documented your suggestion for our corporate record. These records are continuously being reviewed by our Engineering and Product Planning Departments in an effort to provide only the highest quality products to our customers.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.

Regards,

It does work, thats the point. It's just not "designed" for the ATX and will not be covered under warrenty as any other cai such as aem, or cpe...

They just didnt want to spend any extra money to test it on the auto. Plenty of people with auto 6i's have been running intakes with no problems.

Yup, it is about what they will warranty, but that is important to a lot of people. I was going to get the mazdaspeed CAI for my 06 6i ATX if it was covered, but alas, i am screwed.

i would venture to say that 'm 99% sure that if you rolled in with a mazdaspeed intake on your car, the dealer wouldn't care if you were mtx or atx. they are either gonna give you shit about the intake or not, they won't say a thing about your drivetrain. usually they are either dicks or cool, so you should be fine.

I asked my dealership and they said to consult with mazda's head office first because they would have to get any warranty claims cleared through them. Since mazda corporate said no, my dealership says no.

Autos probably can't officially have a CAI put on b/c of emissions.
If someone has a 05 or 06 auto 4 cyl, check in the filer box for a mesh like material between the throttle body and air filter. It's where toyota puts it anyway.

This mesh has stuff (probably activated carbon) to trap HC vapors after the engine has been shut off so that it doesn't go into the atmosphere. When the car is started again, the HC vapors come out of the mesh and is burned up in the engine.

If you stick on a CAI it wouldn't have the stuff and thus not pass emissions.

That's my guess anyway.

so what you are describing would only be found on an ATX, not an MTX? Why is that?
