Hi, I too have just bought a turbo-diesel; not even collected it yet. Mine is a 2002 estate, 121bhp. I have looked into tuning modifications. £300 - £400 will buy about 17% more power and torque, through a removable piggy-back ECU. Here are some tuning links you may find useful.

A word of caution if you have a 5-speed car. Apparently there have been reliability issues with the diesel because of the high torque output; problems with clutches 5th gear. Here are quotes from the honest-john site:

"On the 136PS 5-speed diesel, laboiuring of the engine in 5th (and towing) can lead to a short 5th gear life as the slector pins wear. Not a problem on later 6-speed box". "Enough reports of premature clutch and clutch/flywheel failure to state that the model seems to suffer a much higher rate of this than would be normal".

Interesting that both the 121 and 136 diesels have the same torque figure as standard (229lb ft). Normally a higher boost engine would give more power and torque, so Mazda must have chosen to limit the torque of the faster diesel electronically. Why?... gearboxes are limited by torque (not power), so maybe their 5-speed is at its torque limit?

Tune with care... that is what I'll be doing! And let me know how you get on.

John
