Here are Mazda production, sales and export numbers for Japan, April - September 2002.

Atenza sales aren't looking too strong in Japan but export numbers aren't bad.

Sorry if this has been posted already - I've been away from the site for a little while. Does anybody know how these are tracking to projections?

Actually, Mazda Atenza sales are about 6 times more than Mazda expected. Demand for Mazda in Europe has gone up almost 100%. Pretty Darn good!

Well, if 13,000 cars in 6 months is 6x projections, then Mazda had some pretty low expectations.

Even with the Atenza launch, overall domestic sales are down 6%. That ain't good.

Oh well, I think it's too early to predict rather Mazda6 is making it for Mazda/ Ford or not. We all know the US market is the biggest for the Auto industry. With all the good stuff that they have put into this car, I think and hope it will be a star for 2003.:sarc

It is a star already.

The problem is that the old 626 wasn't the only model that needed replacement. That's why Mazda is releasing new models following a very tight release plan now.

You have Mazda2 and Mazda3 and RX-8 on their way already. But there will be more...

Mazda had expected 2500 per month at domestic sales at the launch. As for domestic
sales, it's true that sales are not good until July. And generally sales are slow in Japan. It's toll order to rely solely on Atenza for Mazda's fortune. Atenza is the first symbol of revival for Mazda.

Considering the market segment, Atenza is ranked #2 sales in Mideun sized car segment; (In Japan)
Sep change from Aug.
1. Crown 4,583 +46.3%
2. Atenza 3,184 +66.7%
3. FairladyZ 1,648 +40.0%
4. Stagea 1,627 +95.8%
5. Cersior 1,396 +39.7%
