Hello fellow mazda enthusiasts, I am jumping on here to get an idea of how and what will be needed to bring my Demon child of an idea to life.

In short the title says it all really but I need help from some car people willing to put up with my endless pursuit of the answer to... Can it be done

I'm unsure if it matters but I live in New Zealand, and I'm perfectly fine with importing the parts needed if I can't source them from my home country. And if its not clear already, the expenses are a non factor. Im not rich, i just want my dream car and know it is going to be a burden on my wallet and im okay with it

Well, you didnt really say what you want to do. It sounds like you want manual AWD. You would need to start with a manual CX-5 which i think stopped in 2015 or 2016.
Problem is, the 6 is longer than the CX-5 and maybe the CX-9, so getting the proper length shaft off the shelf might be an issue.

The fwd 6 speed manual light-duty transaxle is the C66M-R... That's what I have in my car, and that's what @TalonTsi90 , you have in your Mazda3. The only difference between our powertrains is the final rive ratio... (mine is a 'wee bit shorter). There is a C66M-??? that was fitted to the CX5 4 wheel drive, and also maybe the CX3 Four WD, but on the SUV's other detail differences emerge, like different gear ratios for some of the individual speed-gears. That is all academic, though, 'cuz u rightly point out that the OP would start out with a CX5 4 wheel drive variant... (or maybe a cx3 4WD variant)... Seems to me that being able to find a rear diff with the same FDR, of course, is necessary (duh), so that would come from the same parts car, probably np...

There is a line of code in the body control module, I believe, that allows you to change the FDR... to match which powertrain you install. I have it stashed away somewhere; I could find it if necessary

The other PITA the OP faces is that for some markets, like Australia, like possibly New Zealand (?), third gen Mazda6's were all automatics I believe. That alone is a PITA by way of a conversion...

OP, the conversion you mention is (at least in my mind) a bit of a herculean task...

The other thing is that the C66M-? from the cx5, cx3, almost for sure will have been for the 2.0 litre engine. Lower power, lower torque than the 2.5 - so the FDR will be short. And being short, it may not be the optimal final drive ratio for use with a third gen 2.5 litre Skyactiv-G. Do you want, then, to have to do transaxle work to change the gearing, too, OP?

I dont think the CX-3 ever had a manual. Which is why i was specific about the CX-5 and years.

When did the (current generation?) SkyActiv-G CX5 start? Could not have been 2015 could it have been? I thought it was like 2017??? It'd have to be a Skyactiv-G version of the cx5 that the OP would have to start with, correct?

In North America, only the 2.0 litre version of the SkyActiv-G CX5 was available 6mt, and that likely was frt w d.

ROW???

OK, that'd be with the earlier body style then. I'm surprised that earlier body style would accommodate the exh header of the (current) SkyActiv-G engines... Though the 2013 cx5 is larger than the mazda3, when SkyActiv-G 2.0 litre first became available (in 2012??) on the 3 they said that it was not the full-on SkyActiv treatment 'cuz the firewall would not fully accommodate the header... and said engine I think had a lesser CR (less than the North American 13:1). I think I'm right, here...
