currently looking into buying a mazda 6s, however the one that I was looking at got a cel when I test drove it :huh: The owner checked it out and said it was cat related. He's asking a solid price and I was wondering if I can just change out the cat to a high flow and not have any issues.

I would'nt touch it unless you find out exactly which CAT has the issue (seeing as these cars have 4 of them). BTW is it a 4cyl. or the 6?

As cheap as 6's can be found, I'd consider looking a bit more. He probably had his fingers crossed the CEL wouldn't come-up while you were driving the car....
