M6 owner going MP6 with few questions

2483 Views 22 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  ninecoronas
I ownED 2004 Mazda 6 but my parents traded in 5 month ago when I joined ARMY.
Now I need to get new car and I saw really nice deals on Mazdaspeed6.
06 new Speed6 sports was 22k. GT was around 24k
Here are my questions about mazdaspeed6

How fast is mazdaspeed6? Is it fast as STI? 350z?
Also can you heard the turbo sound when you push it?
I didnt test drive but my brother felt the engine little bit.
It was 07 and he didnt want to mess up brand new car.
RPM was around 3k and i hear small noise of turbo.

anyways my brother traded in my mazda6 for his 06 350z
I want something can smoke his car.

Also can you upgrade stock turbo? just turbo without other equipments?

Is 2000 more dollar worth GT upgrade?

Its either this car or 27k Evo 9 RS version.

I liked my mazda6 and mp6 is similar to mazda6 but better!

In response to your questions, in order...

165 mph without governor, 149 with

yes,

yes.
so do you think its faster than 350z and STI?
It's close, but I would have to say that the 350 and Sti are a step quicker... maybe even 2 steps... lol
You're comparing it to the wrong things. The 350z and STI are in different classes than the MS6. Now if you want to compare it to the Legacy GT spec b or such, it is marginally slower by a hair, however, the interior and comfort is top notch.
My brother raced my friends 07 STI and he lost really badly.
He told me STI played with his 350z.
I want something 4 door with turbo and mp6 is perfect for the price.

Yes. Heated leather seats, keyless entry, heated mirrors, etc. You get a lot for the 2 grand. Has been worth it to me.
You might do a search on the drag racing part of the forum for some of people's experiences racing STIs and EVOs. P5Freak has an exhaust cutout, CAI and a manual boost controller and is running consistently with mildly upgraded STI/EVOs. He's a darn good driver, which helps. Tuning to allow the engine to run a bit leaner, new intercoolers for better cooling (so more spark advance), bigger turbos are all coming soon. For $27k, you could comfortably bury an Evo9 by spring. I'd go with the Sport, it's got better seats (leather is slippery), is probably 150# lighter (.2 seconds in the 1/4 mile) and the extra $2k would buy you a set of superlightweight 17" rim/tires that take another .3-.5 off your 1/4 mile times (at least in theory).

The sport has keyless entry and heated mirrors :slap:

With the GT you get: leather interior, smart key system, sunroof.

My error. I still like my smart key and heated leather seats. However, I don't drag race so don't need the few 1/10's of a second that fewer pounds will give you, and the $2K was worth the comfort.

Can you confirm that the sport has heated mirrors? I was pretty sure that was an extra feature of the GT.

I have ghetto heated mirrors. It's called a lighter and 5 mins.
If you are a good driver it will be faster than a 350z in 1/4 elapse time, but not in MPH. The 350z by the time you hit the 1/4 they are close to 100+mph. So if you race your brother just get the jump and you can maitain your lead until the aaauhhhm finish line :nana:
Test drive the MS6. If you still have hesitations, look for another car!
damn I stop looking at the Mazdaspeed section for like a week and it is all of a sudden flooded with noobs...

STi, EVO, and 350z are faster than the MS6...hands down no question

Upgrades are available for the MS6 but not nearly as prevelent as the other cars mentioned.

Sport does NOT come with heated anything...Sport model has cloth manual seats.

GT model has leather, heated seats, heated mirrors, and smart-key system.

Search for gods sake...

If you are looking for something that is just fast with no refinement then go buy an EVO, if you want a car that has a good ride, is decently fast, and a nice interior get the MS6.

It's funny you mentioned the Legacy GT, as I pulled away from one last night from a 55mph roll, with my girlfriend in the car, he had no passenger. I don't ordinarily condone my own behavior, however I was on an empty highway late at night, and figured what the hell. Either way, unless the guy was a bad driver, or something to that effect, our cars (or at least mine) are/is a bit faster than a LGT. By the time I was at 6k rpms in 4th gear, his front bumper was about equal with my rear bumper, again I had an extra person in the car.

As far as the 350Z and STI are concerned... I'm a former 350Z owner, and at my current altitude of 5200ft asl my MS6 is a bit faster than my Z was. However at sea level I'm pretty sure that would be a different, as turbo cars aren't nearly as affected by altitude as NA cars are. However I test drove an STI up here, and I must say no, a stock MS6 will not pull away from an STI, given equal drivers in both. At sea level the Z and STI pull similiar trap speeds and are generally neck and neck from a roll, so make your own conclusions. From a stop, if you know how to launch an AWD car you can most definately pull a 350Z out of the hole, but racing at higher speeds (where the Z accels) at sea level, I'm sure it would start to pull away. From a stop, roll, whatever, given equal drivers, an STI should pull pretty much anywhere. It has more horsepower, weighs less, and both are AWD. Pretty simple equation.

STI & EVO I would agree with, but the 350Z would depend on what altitude you live at. At sea level, yes a 350Z should be faster, where I'm at in the Denver area (5200 ft), no the MS6 would pull away. Just thought I would interject, being a former owner of both ;)

Also, regarless of altitude, if you owned a MS6 Sport, and were running let's say an 06 (they got heavier in 06) auto Touring 350Z, I could see the MS6 being equal, possibly pulling, even from a roll. Just a thought.

Ok, well I have a sport, and it definitely has heated mirrors. Maybe it's different in Canada :wtf:

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe that the MS6 is faster than the regular Legacy GT. However, the spec B is slightly more powerful than the normal Legacy and therefore marginally faster.

Or, he could just be one crappy driver, and his car should be ripped of parts, and anything of use should be given to me.
