I know I'm not one of the more common posters around here, but I wanted to share a short story and some pics.
This happened Friday night. The crash was not my fault and the red light camera backs up my story. The other driver was cited for a violation and I was not. Beyond that, I'm not sure I should say anything else, I've been advised to not put anything in writing. I hope you guys can appreciate and respect that at this time.
I walked away with minor injuries considering the damage. I had a mild concussion and tore a muscle in my shoulder from the seat belt. I also crossed my arms in front of my face right before the airbag went off, I don't remember doing it, but the burns on my wrists from it confirmed it. I was told that I most likely blacked out on impact. There are parts that I don't remember and had to be filled in on later. I will be sore for a while, but that is a small price to pay, hopefully there will be no lasting injuries.
The officer drove me home and gave me his cell phone and we've talked a few times since. He's been extremely helpful and I can't say enough good things about him. I know many people here (myself included) don't always have the nicest things to say about officers, so I thought I would also share that part. He told me that after viewing the video camera, the other car did a complete 360 due to the impact. He also told me that after seeing it on tape, he was very surprised that I was out of the car and walking around when he got there. He was a couple blocks away and heard the impact so he was there very quick. All things considered, I feel like I got very lucky, and I also owe a thank you to Mazda for making a safe car. It could have been WAY worse! It might sound dumb, but in a few days on Thanksgiving this will be one of the biggest things I am thankful for.
I got this car when I was a senior in high school, and I am now 22, and just graduated college and started working a few months ago. I've got my eye on a BMW 135i or 335i (other suggestions are welcome!). It was my first new car and I will miss this car and there are a lot of good memories, but it's time to move on.
The mods were: airbox mod, mazdaspeed short shifter with voodoo knob, shark fin, jdm side markers, ddm hid kit, cp-e motor mount, tint, rota machspeed wheels (17x7.5) with wider tires, dmh electronic exhaust cut-out installed at start of y-pipe in place of the last cat, koni yellows, mazdaspeed springs, racing beat rear sway bar with awr end links.
