I have a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 equipped with the credit card style smart key. It occasionally refuses to unlock the door and the ignition. I need to tap it a few times in order for it to work. Could be the car, but I think its the key.

Anyways, I'm wanting to replace this on my own. Everything I've read on the forum says I need to take it to a dealer to get it programmed which im fine with, but I was wondering if anyone here knew if a CX-9 key would be programmable to the MPS. I've found some on ebay and they seem much cheaper than dealer costs.

I was convinced my receiver was defective too after two years. The tapping creates a better connection for the exhausted battery. Like bumping a flashlight that goes dim.
If you have a voltmeter, ck battery or better yet just replace it. Take the actual key out before pulling retaining strip out of remote to access battery, the strip goes back in only one way, curve goes toward battery. CR2025 While at it record the key code numer and keep it handy for lock out help. (not in the car)

Low voltage and loose connection will always be a problem.

Security/safety note; be careful using the remote, especially in busy, mall area. There are people with devices that can capture your code when you hit lock while walking away. Probably not the credit card type with it's short range, mine auto locks walking away. At night someone could be hiding in your car or take your valuable stuff while you are in the store.
