Part vent part inquiry incoming:

Seems like with this car it's always the things I think are going to be easy that put up the biggest fight.

Axle seals leaking (2nd time for the passenger side in as many years) and, now that I've done that one a few times, can yank it out no problem by pulling the intermediary shaft with the CV axle and moving it out of the way. On that side, there is no circlip holding the axle into the trans.

I'm having a heck of a time getting the driver's side to pop out, though. On every other car I've worked on, a quick pop with a breaker bar is all that is needed. This one seems really locked in though; giving it all I got and it won't budge. Wondering if there's something I'm missing. Seems like part of the problem is that on this transmission there isn't a really great place to get a breaker bar between the trans and the axle.

ik this can screw up trannies but sometimes we'll use mazdas for derby cars and to get broken axle out I tie a chain around the axle ad put the other chain to the bobcat\skidsteer and tighten the chain not pulling it then ill put the car in drive usually its pop the axle out ez fix but I wouldn't recommend on a daily unless you want to put a new tranny in it :)

If you pull on the outer joint the inner one will pop apart. Then you have to pull the boot to reassemble it which is no fun.

I use a chisel or large flat blade screwdriver to wedge between the axle and trans housing. Then hammer in the "wedge" and it will pop out the axle.
