Interest in Swift Spring Design for MS6

Swift springs will custom makes springs specifically for the MS6 but they require a 15 set minimum
order. They design their springs with fewer coils and this makes their springs
lighter as well as increase the distance to coil bind. This allows you to run a
higher rate spring with less ride quality loss. They are a very popular spring
in Japan and are now beginning to enter the US market.

They are a pretty popular upgrade on the LegacyGT... and have gotten nothing but rave reviews.

What are the specs? Assume linear rate, but how much stiffer than stock? What kind of a drop? What kind of price are we looking at here?
I highly doubt you are going to get anywhere close to 25 orders. Try to get that numbe to come down a little bit more.
Sounds interesting. How would they compare to AutoExe and what kind of $$ are we talking about? Thanks!

I think it depends on the dollar amount. If it's less (a lot less) than the Autoexe, people might start jumping on it. And yeah, Swift Springs are popular with the Subbie crowd.

"William,
I talked with Swift today and got some information.
-Drop 1.2 inches
-Price :$300/set
-min qty needed to be sold 15

We have talked about spring rates and they came up with 5kg (aprox 280lbs) front
and 3.5kg (aprox 196lbs) rear. We can change the spring rate to whatever we
want, if needed. They will be making these spring exclusively for me. I will be
the only one that can sell them for the Speed 6 and they won't make them for
anyone else.
They will first send a demo set and then we can make adjustments from there.
They will build the demo set 4 weeks after the order and then they should have
the complete order in 5 weeks after the adjustment request (if any).

We installed a demo set in a 2006 STI and the results are great. No loss in ride
quality but noticeably less body roll and more responsive. I am going to sign on
with Swift either way. I am pleased with their product."

The auto shop is great and is currently planning on developing a FMIC for the speed 6.
I am very pleased by the time they have been investing on the MS6 and I'm sure you wont be dissapointed.

Thats kind of what im looking for but those spring rates are the exact same as the v6 model. So maybe something a little higher but not that high to kill the stock dampers. Make sure the demo set they give you is not for the v6 model. I believe stock is 280/185?
Autoexe 370/225 ?
Megan 335/250 ?

Maybe some suspension experts can recommend a good rate that wont kill the stock dampers if this company is going to wind up some new springs.
AutoExe are Fr:64.7(49.0) Rr:39.2(32.34) N/mm or Fr:6.6 (6.0) Rr:4.0 (3.3) kgf/mm (normal is within the parentheses) and give a -30mm drop according to the AutoExe website.

I would probably suggest not making the drop too extreme... AutoExe's seems pretty reasonable. For both clearance of the front end and the tires/wheels as well as the life of the stock shocks.

After looking back over the numbers you posted... the rates are way too low compared to the AutoExe... which the generally opinion has been that they ride well and handle well. A good place to start is just to match the AutoExe rates and drop... everyone would be happy to save $100 on springs... as toybiz says in the next post.

I would be interested, but those spring rates seem a little bit low.
Ryceboi, what do you think? Wiggum, what do you think?

If the opportunity exists to have a spring rate of your choosing wouldn't this be the best chance to do so?

Heck, even if you just take AutoEXE's spring rates exactly, that is still a $100+ off the price!

I'm down if it can be done and not just some repackaged M6 V6 springs...
I'd be in if we could get something around Fr:(7) Rr:(5.75) kgf/mm with about the same drop as the autoexe. I use my trunk all the time, and don't want the rear to sag becuase of a softer spingrate.
Autoexe replica please!!! the car is already low compare to other cars on the street. Anything more than 1 inch will be painful to drive.
+1 agreed
i would be interested in a set similar to the megan racing rates and having them lower the front a little more than the rear since the rear is lower from the factory.
i'm interested too. modest drop and designed to not kill the stock dampners :)
+1....I'd say I am interested. Just need a little more details and I'd be good to go. Agreed on not lowering too much and designed for the Speed6 only!
StreetUnit is willing to get us to hit the 25+ sets. We can get Swift moving on the project...

What do you guys think?

i need the stock spring length, in order to do any calcs. if they're going to use the 280/196 numbers, you just need to make sure that theres enough travel left that you dont hit the bumpstops when under heavier loads.
Ummm Right off the bat you say "no loss in ride quality" on an STi....

THE STI IS THE WORST RIDE QUALITY OUT THERE... i mean... you can't lose ride quality when you have none to begin with.... those cars are fast and great for rally.. but they rattle teeth loose... lol

So yeah.... tryin to compare ride quality of STi... on a set of springs doesn't do us much good...
Try a Legacy GT forum... http://www.legacygt.com... and see what members there have said about them. They have gotten good reviews there as well.

Even though the springs will be around $300 / set, with shipping we will be looking close to the GB for AutoEXE of $430 don't you think? :)
