My son's car ('04 6S) is running fine but I am paranoid about the cats and want to be proactive. I think I discerned a hint of that sulphur smell that accompanies a bad cat. We are in Atlanta where we have annual emissions inspections. What choices are there. Are headers compatible with emisions testing or do I just need to replace the cats. Are certain cats better than others? Thanks. RTR

I'm interested in answers to this question too. I'm still shopping for a car, and the 6 is one of my favorite options so far. I'm rather nervous about any 6 with the V6 engine, however, thanks to the horror stories about dead cats ruining engines (now there's an interesting mental picture for you if you take it the other way...).

If I end up buying a 6s, I will want headers and exhaust that are legal and pass OBD-II tests. So I will want a cat (that doesn't disintegrate, of course), and O2 sensors that can feed the right data to the ECU. Getting an aftermarket muffler and resonator might be nice too, but that's not the main point for me. I wouldn't want anything loud anyway, but something with a deeper growl would be nice.

Suggestions?
