Hello,
I'm trying to track down a noise from what I think is coming from an islet pulley or the tensioner pully on the serpentine belt. It's kind of a cross between a rattle and a whine. The car has 190K but runs strong. I plan to replace both and the belt. Before I do I thought it would be good to get a second (or 3rd or 4th) opinion. Does it sound like I am looking at the most likely parts to fail? If the alternator is failing would thete be something obvious besides the noise?

Thanks

@Calvin Mine has been all of them. I have replaced the tensioners (one of them twice) and he alternator bearings (there are two inside) are now quite necessary.

Take the belt off and rotate/move the bearings by hand, you will know right away which ones are loose/too easily rotated/crunchy.
