Hi,

I am a first time buyer of a car and bought a 2008 Mazda 6..sorry for a lame question but how do I determine what type of trim I have? I thought the make of the car would be "Mazda" and the model is "6".. after looking around on line I notice there are different trims such as the "i sport", "s sedan" etc.. How could i determine the trim type? BTW I bought this car at a Honda dealrship, it didn't come with an owners manual and I tried to look all over the car to see if there was any indication of the trim type but no luck. Any tips/adivce would be appreciated! thanks in advance! :)

The i and s denote the engine. The 4-cylinder engine is known as the 6i, and the 6-cylinder engine is known as the 6s. For 2006-2008, I believe there were 4 trims: Sport, Sport Value Edition, Touring, and Grand Touring. Don't quote me on that, though. I also believe the Sport trim disappeared sometime in the middle of that...SVE became the base option. Post a picture of your car and we might be able to narrow it down, but basically, if you have leather, Bose stereo, sunroof, heated mirrors, automatic climate control, 18" wheels, etc. you probably have a GT. If you have cloth seats, manual climate control, regular stereo, etc. you probably have an SVE.

Really do appreciate the info.. I dont know if you can tell from the exterior. I have not yet taken pics of the inside and under the hood. it's an automatic 5 speed, 6disc changer non-mp3 disc, no moon roof, no bose speakers or at least it doesnt say bose on it and beige suede seats. Black and tan inside.

Sounds like a Sport VE to me. That's basically the same car I have.

Really the only exterior telltales on the 06-08s were the grill and the wheels, and the grill disappeared at some point. They all got the sport grill. I think the GTs had 18" wheels throughout all 3 years, though.

You definitely have a 6i, though. The 6-cylinder engine was paired with a 6-speed transmission (automatic...I think manuals were 5-speed). In addition, it had v6 badges on the back and sides. The 4-cylinder didn't have any badges related to the engine. You also definitely have a sedan.

BTW I only mentioned 5 speed cuz I can manually shift gears even though it is an automatic.. dont know if that was appropriate for me to describe.

Did they upgrade the trannies? My 6i is only a 5 speed? I thought the 6 speed was an option and the 5 speed was standard for an atx on the v6?

automatic climate control was only available on the v6's and mazdaspeeds. us 4 cyl never got the option no matter the trim.

some 03-05's had the 2.3 badging on the doors. but i dont think they did at all from 06+

I should have waited a year or so to get my 6... probably wouldnt make any difference, just another gear to hit with the "sport mode" :)

The 1st and 2nd-gens were either 6i or 6s (i models had the 4-cylinder, s models had the V6), and the '07 "base" models were the Sport Value Edition.

So, you've got a 6i SVE.
