If I'm interested in purchasing a 6 and can wait, how much can I expect off of MSRP by waiting longer? Including rebates, if I remember correctly, around July 05 one could get about $5-6k off MSRP for an 05 and almost 8k off for an 04.

Currently my local dealers are advertising base model 6i automatics for ~$4k off MSRP in the paper, no haggling. Let's assume I want an '06 6 and am willing to throw preferred options out the window and take what is on the lot. If I wait until July or September when 07s come out, how much can I expect off of MSRP for an 06 Mazda6 (assuming the dealer has stock on the lot)?

Well speaking from personal experience, I bought my 04 6S in January of 05 for $7k off MSRP. It took 5 dealerships but I got what I wanted. Just don't be afraid to walk out.

Considering I saved over $6K from MSRP when I bought my '04 in July, I don't see any reason why you should wait. Get what you want while you still can, and I'm sure with a little haggling, you'll still get the deal you want.

Well, in my situ, there are 2 reasons to wait:

1) continue to save to have a larger downpayment
2) paid off 1991 car is still running practically maintenance/expense free

And the moral of this story...the more you wait, the more you save!

...the less you get to choose from as well.

If you'd like to wait, that's fine. I'm just saying that a good deal is just as possible now as later, plus you have more of a selection to choose from.

Yes, I think I know the differences pretty well. I've had my eye on the Mazda6 since 2002, but it's nice that you ask.
I know it's not a popular opinion, but I like the 06 over the 05 because:
1) Better cloth seats
2) Additional gear in the ATX
3) More subtle gfx in the sports model

If I had to buy today, I'd consider both the 05 and the 06 but there aren't many 05s in my area. I expect when it's time for me to buy, only the 06 will be available.

No matter when I buy, one feature I would like to find is beige cloth. There are a ton of black or gray interiors but I find them too dark and would prefer a lighter color. I'd even make interior color a first choice and choose exterior second. Though, if I wait, I might need to go a couple hundred miles away to find a beige interior.

Five days ago, I bought my 2006 Mazda6 s 5-Door (MSRP $27,420) for $21,000 with a '94 Toyota Corolla in trade. If I remember correctly, I think the purchase price was $22,300 minus $1,300 for my trade. Saved $800 over a 2007 Camry LE V6 (a very nice car, BTW).

I prefer the Camry's bigger, more-efficient engine, but that car lacked traction/stability control, alloy wheels, and just wasn't as fun to drive. The Mazda6 has the best handling compared to Accord and Camry.

My 06 Redfire came with beige interior. Well, the seats and carpet, the door panels and dash are two-tone blk/beige. But, I already had the beige cloth ripped out and (two-tone beige with blk inserts) leather put in. I would agree that the lighter interior is very nice. Good luck with your searching.

Thanks everyone. This gives me a feel for the range of discounts I can expect to haggle within.
