I understand that many HID bulbs will color-shift over time, to a higher (bluer) color temperature. But I have the opposite problem.

My HID kit is a year old. About half a year ago, my buddy noticed the driver's side bulb was whiter/yellower (not as blue) than the other side. I ordered a pair of replacement bulbs, but only replaced the bad one. Now, it's happening again.

It's not at the point of having visibly reduced brightness (to the eye), but you can tell the difference in hue.

Both the original bulbs and the replacements are 6000k. My question is, will replacing the ballast fix this problem? The passenger side hasn't changed in a freaking year.

Hmm, that's what I thought too, tried it, same result. I did get it resolved eventually - I'm a dumbass.

The ORIGINAL bulbs which I thought were 6000k, were actually 8000k. One of them died, I got 6000k replacement bulbs, and only replaced the bad one.

Later on, I replaced the replacement bulb with the other one from the pair (6000k) and it was the same - that's when I realized it was fine and I had just got the wrong color temperature :(

The original ballasts are working fine with the replacement 8000k bulbs now, for a couple months...

If I understand your question correctly you dont have to change anything in the original headlight assembly. The thing that you do drill into is the dust cap, or the part that you unscrew to even get access to the bulbs. Does this make sense?

Also, you can remove the upbeam reflector from each projector assembly. This is a bit of metal that reflects some light upwards to bounce off signs and such. You don't need it with HIDs but some people leave them in.

To remove the headlights, you MUST remove the front bumper (or at least unhook it and pull it off so far that you might as well be removing it).
