Hi, Im really 'noob' , but i still want to know that:

what does cold air intake do? I read some post about it and sounds like it can power my car up?
I have a 6s, would it make a significant difference?

And also I am considering changing my head unit to a pioneer Deh-780MP, does Mazda make decks to fit those kinds head units?

and which one should i get first? I only have budget for modify one of below:
magnaflow exhaust
Headunits + metra kit
or CPE CAI MAF

thanks :)

A Cold air intake brings in cold air from outside the engine bay. Cold air = more dense than hot air. Thus giving the car more power.

Plus, with a CAI, less restriction means better performance, for the most part.

As far as the deck, search the boards for "metra". You'll need to change out the dash in order to fit aftermarket decks.

Welcome to the board and enjoy your 6.
read that the CAI gives high end hp but lowers low end torque...
doesn't that mean slower start-ups?
would it be the same with automatics? also heard that the lower end torque won't be that easy to notice since there's torque converter or something
The purpose of CAI is to add power. How much power? Depends on the CAI brand.

ATX, MTX, V6 or I4, it doesn't matter. All of them will benefit from CAI.
CAI have different power gains but for the 6s they are normally between 10-20 horsepower
Yeah, thx for the inputs.

I was looking at the CPE CAI for V6, but i read a lot of posts about rubbing noise coming from the CAI.
Is the problem still existing and is everyone who gets CPE cold air intake facing the problem?

I dont want to spend 600 and have to deal with the problem after all.

Also, which should I do first?
Install CPE CAI or change the headunit? I only have budget to one.
that info those guys were good, also heres a site about CAI. Not sure about the CPE CAI I have the BOMZ Racing one, but it really is your preference. If you would like your engine to sound better, have more power and with CPE Intake thats about 16-20 hp, and actually have a slight boost in fuel economy.
just want to make sure, is engine with cai safe in normal rain? (not storm)
and i park indoor. Will water become a problem once i install cai?
I would suggest the metra deck. But as a reminder the wiring harness doesn't support the 06' and up so your hud will not work for new 6. But if you got an 05' or below it will. I dont really need the ambient temp, and if i can't tell where my heaters are directed then i shouldn't be drivin anyway. Works great other than that. Here is mine.

Personally I would go with the CPE first, the factory HU isn't bad, and an exhaust upgrade doesn't increase performance any, you just get different exhaust sound.
I'd go with the CAI as well. Driving in the rain isn't a problem. You just don't want to drive through water deep enough to submerge the intake...and that would take a lot of water.

I am I the only one that prefers the look of the factory radio over an aftermarket one. It makes the center console have a completely different look.
i agree it doesnt look as good as factory, but it's not bad.

On the '06 however, i think it would look out of place.
i checked the rpm store and checked the CPE CAI .
it says : Air/Fuel Controller Type: tuneable (+99.99)

what does that tuneable thing do? Do i get less performance improvement without it?

Most people don't get the tunable one, as I think with it you can adjust the air/fuel ratios?

I would go with the intake first, or you can wait and check the buy/sell for a used one which comes every so often (but not so often). They go for about $375 used.

I agree the metra kits doesn't look nearly as nice as the stock head unit. Wonder why we can't use the stock knobs as the metra one looks a bit cheap.
