I'm at about 80,000 miles and for the past 4 months I've been having a problem with my car starting. I've been told by my mechanic that it has something to do with the security system built into the car. He says it is going into a safe mode and not letting me start the car because it "thinks" someone is trying to steal it.

Typically if I leave the car alone for about 15 to 30 mins, it will start the next time. Which makes it difficult to get the problem fixed becuase everytime i bring the car into the dealership, they can't find anything wrong with it. They said they would need it to happen again while the car is in front of them in order to figure out what it is.

I'm really not a car junky or have any mechanical knowledge, so i was hoping i could find someone on here that may have had this problem too or atleast know something about it.

whats it doing? does the start turn over when you turn the key, or does it not do anything at all?

Does nothing at all, the power turns on but the engine does nothing. Then when i come back about 15 mins later, it will start right up. I've been told that it has something to do with the security system, but I really have no idea.

I just know it has happened about 5 different times now in the last several months and its really annoying.

well the only thing would be the chip in the key itself that i can think of. have you tried using your other car key? does it happen with both of them?
