So I'm having problems with my cooling fans they won't turn on when it gets to the proper temperature. But when I turn on the AC the fans work. Now the car Gauge doesn't say that it overheats but it absolutely does And starts to run terribly. And I'm not sure that my mom's the 6 has 1 of those fan modules that everyone keeps talking about what can I do

Is it throwing any engine codes? I think P0136 and P0138 indicate faulty temperature sensor, low coolant level or bad thermostat. Coolant level is the easiest followed by temp sensor then the dreaded thermostat. Would help to know more about the car details.
