I'm just wondering if you guys who have the NAV could tell me where they put the GPS antenna/receiver?

Is it inside the dash?

I've looked yesterday to try to give you an answer, but unfourtnatley i did'nt find any antenna... i'll take a couple of pictures of the DVD reader and the mount for you, but i think it's stuffed under the dash as you also mentioned.

Yeah, it probably is. My curiosity is based on the fact that I'm thinking about making a permanent mount of my Destinator GPS. It is supposed to be ON the dash, but I assume there must be a place inside the dash where you get descent reception also. Whereelse does the original one have the antenna?

Well...if you figure it out, I'm greatful. :) Pics are appreciated!

Thanks.

I did'nt actually catch anything of interest, it's all well mounted in there, and it's hard to see how they've made it. It's all well hidden behind the dvd unit. I think i saw the antenna connected to the "side" under the dvd unit, which means that the antenna is mounted under the dashboard just under the front window!

I'll post them anyway now when i actually charged the battery on my digital and took 'em.

That one shows the cable in the visible gap between the DVD unit and the glove compartment.

Show's how the nav system is mounted in the glovecomparment.

Show's how the LCD display looks from side when up.

I bet you've seen those pictures 1000 times, lol, but i took one anyway, thought that the IR reciever is pretty visible there.

Thanks.

As you say, it's hard to tell where the cable goes. But there's probably a place up under the dash with only a thin layer of plastic above, where they've put the antenna/receiver.

It's cute with the display in the dash like that. But man, was it expensive! And actually, I think I'd kind'a miss the storage compartment I have there right now. It's perfect.

Thanks for your effort, Ulf. Much Appreciated.

Did you see that homemade aftermarket mount that that guy did? I saw some links on this forum where he had pictures and measurements of the mounting and pictures. It looked really good, almost like the original, but then you loose the compartment of course.

Yeah, I saw it. Pretty cool. But frankly - it's almost as expensive as the original one - then I'd rather have the original... :)

Ah, that is where I put my GPS antenna as well. However, mine is the simple PocketPC GPS version. :) I think that is a good place to put it. It will not give you the maximum strength but does give you decent signal and asthetically more pleasing.
