Got Zoom!

Howdy all,

I became the owner of a new 06 6s Auto a couple of weeks ago and love it so far. I had driven the Altima and the Camry prior to buying my 6. I have to say that the Altima is over rated, noisy and not very refined (4 cylinder). The Camry on the other hand was a very nice car, quiet, smooth and well built however it was quite underpowered (4 cylinder also)

So after driving the 6s and loving the ride and handling and the layout of the interior it was pretty much a done deal, especially considering that for 19k plus ticks and licks for the level of equipment it was a hard deal to pass up.

As for things that I wish were different.
6 spd auto needs to have crisper shifts and Mazda might as well remove the manumatic in it's current form since it's one of the most lazy shifting manumatics I've ever driven.

Engine, maybe a bit more power and go back to a cable based throttle, the drive by wire is not responsive enough.

I would think that the shift issues as well as the throttle could be addressed by a ECM/TCM update, come on Mazda, I don't want no watered down Zoom Zoom Zoom.

I understand that my findings are nothing new around here, so I'm just adding my 2 cents worth (actual cash value, .5 cents)

Since I'm the father of 2 and my wife does not much care for "sports" cars my performance upgrades will be of the you cannot see type or hear, so no CAI or Exhaust :swearin:
So here are some of the upgrades I'm looking in to.
For sure items,
CP-E engine mount
Tinted Windows, probably 30% all around since I'm in Cali and am limited by the long arm of the law.
Also I'm looking to close the gap, you know the wheel well gap, so I'll be looking for some springs that won't kill the ride while enhancing the handling, something in the 1" to 1.5" drop all around.
Possible itmes
I also want to upgrade the audio system since mine came with the single CD player, I'm thinking Bose head unit with MP3 playback along with an aftermarket amp and speakers. (I love the steering wheel audio controls)
Rims? maybe have my factory 5 spokes powder coated black??? I think with the black light surrounds and the tinted windows that would set off the Tungsten Grey quite nice.
Finally I may want to have the factory spoiler removed and the holes filled, after which I may add a lip spoiler like the one on the Speed6.

Congrats on the buy! Hope you stay happy with the car.
Welcome to the club!

Too bad you can't get a CAI, because it's one of the very few ways to gain some easy HP. Maybe you can convince the ol' lady to get one since it's not loud below 4000 rpm? ;) As for the springs, this answer is way too easy, given want you want. Mazdaspeed Hatch Springs, no question. Best place to get them is from Revenant, who works for the forum sponser JimClickMazdaParts.com. Do a search on the springs them and you'll find all kinds of good info.

Happy modding.
Congrats!!!!! No CAI insight!? Do the air box mod. It can easily be found in a search of this site or mazda6tech.com. It was the first thing I did. It is free, sounds great and adds a bit of zoom.
Also check out www.cp-e.com for their shift kit in the future. It may help you out alot.

Again congrats,
Rob
Grats! I see the modding bug has gotten to you very early in the game, my advice is to not listen to your wife and do whatever you want to the car, if you got the cash, do it, it'll be worth the constant nagging in the end. :p

After reading around it seems as if the CAI helps with low end torque, and I like that idea. However I've read conflicting information, some say over 3500 - 4000 RPM's it get noisy, others say it's just noisy. While noisy is a matter of opinion, I would not want something that would be irritating on a 4-5 hour drive. Otherwise I may be able to pull this off and it may wind up being one of the things I do sooner rather than later. First the tint, next I think the springs and maybe just maybe a CAI.
The "noisy" that I myself heard is not like the ricers out there with coffee cans as mufflers. The type of the sweet-spot rpms where I love the car to be or when passing in the passing lane is the Zoom Zoom that this car is meant and destined to have. So yes a CAI is recommended but as Rob said, the airbox mod is an alternative. I myself have not done it but I have heard generally good things with it.

Good luck and post pics/reviews of the mods you will or have done!
Holy shit! You are so far the most knowledgable new owner I've seen yet. Welcome to the club.

I cannot speak for other CAI's (they should be the same), but I can assure you that the CP-E has very little if any added "growl" when you are below 3000 RPM. This is probably one of my favorite effects of a CAI, as you only here the aggressive sound when you're being aggressive on the gas pedal :drive: . You'll barely notice anything when cruising, and your wife will probably not even know anything is different.

Notice how all of us keep saying to mod away depsite what your wife says? :D
Welcome to the forum! And congrats on your new ride.
