Has anyone ever heard of a procedure called "retipping the case." My boss asked me about it, he had an AAMCO tell him they did this to his tranny and he mentioned something about them needing to fill and regrind the bearing seat (throwout bearing I'm guessing). So, any help?

The throw out bearing isnt in the tranny, it is pressed into the end of the crank... Unless there is some other throw out bearing that I dont know about.

No idea what retipping is, did he maybe mean retapping?

Sorry, should have been more specific, he had his clutch replaced and was told they had to do this. I was assuming is was transmission-related because of the word "case"... so? Maybe it was retapping, but wouldn't that imply tapping and not grinding? I'll have to ask for clarification. The car is a late 90's Sentra, before they changed to the current body style, so its FWD.

I'm not sure of the exact positioning of the throwout bearing, but its the only one I can think of in the vicinty that would be removed and replaced when replacing a clutch.
