While I was searching-on various things, I was surprised to find numerous sites discussing a common problem in Fords where electroloysis takes-over the cooling system. The primary failure is the heater core. (many of the sites mention the Duratec by name, but I think most of their engines fall under the Duratec name)

I don't have the link here at work, but one site even menioned that Ford issued a bulletin citing improper/insufficient engine-to-chassis grounds being at fault.

I use Redline Water Wetter, which helps combat electrolysis, and I keep my coolant changed, but I'm still glad I just happened to add an engine-to-chassis ground when I did my coils a few weeks ago.

Karl, I'm glad you're taking care of us. You're what this site is all about---finding & passing about information and telling us your experiences. Just like the one about double checking torque on motor mounts.
Before I put my ground wires on, I could not believe even how relatively thin the main ground going to the starter is. If you have a big stereo I would recommend an additional ground from the body to the negative terminal. I also ran one to the tranny and of course throttle body.
I also put a coolant wetter in mine as well. Why not? We want our engines to last.

Adding fresh engine-chassis and engine-chassis grounds would likely head off a lot of other problems as our cars age and the factory wiring contacts weather. Thanks for the tip. Putting it on my to-do list.
