Do any of you fellow mazda6 drivers know what fuel is best for the us version of the Mazda6. As i understand it states in the manual to use 87 but I think it's a bit too low for this new car that is outputing 220HP. Since I just got my car 4 day's ago and I am still breaking it in I am only putting 89(plus) fuel in it so it doesn't damage the engine. I am just curious if i should use higher grade of fuel once my mazda is broken in.

Any suggestions appriciated.:D :sarc

Reading Topic: Fuel for Mazda6 S

There seems to be some conflicting reports on which fuel you should be using for best performance. A mainstream US magazine reported premium unleaded "recommended", but Mazda states only regular fuel is "required".

There was a thorough discussion about this here: http://www.goonish.com/atenza/read.php?TID=1034

It wasn't really conclusive, but it was leaning in the direction of that you wouldn't gain anything by using a fuel higher than 87. Meaning, the engine was rated at 220HP on 87 octane fuel, and you won't necessarily get anything more by putting in 91/93.

Read the thread for more details ;)
