My Fuel Economy Has Improved Dramatically

EDIT BY MODERATOR: There is nothing wrong with this post, but I am frankly tired of the millions of new threads that are created regarding the fuel economy of the Mazda 6. So whether your MPG is good, bad or average, post about it here. I will close any new threads on fuel efficiency I see.
Thanks!

I wss one of those complaining how my 6 was not getting the 20MPG City driving as Advertised. With 80% City & 20% Highway driving, I could fill up the tank and my low-fuel light would go on at about 220 or 240 miles.

Now I am getting to at least 280 before the light comes on. The other day I made it to 300 before the light went on. I am still driving the same City/Highway ratio and my driving style hasn't changed. I am putting the same fuel in from the same station... a Shell station.

I'll try to figure out my MPG, but I am definately seeing gas last longer in this car. Good timing too.. considering the price of gas $2.09 a gallow round these parts. make me glad I always stick 87 octane in it and not 92 like some insist on :)

Yeah I just passed my 10k mark as well and have my highest mpg so far at 26 mpg. That's with 90% highway though, but at around 80 mph usually...and when I drive locally, I drive pretty hard.

As best I can gauge my light comes on when I have about 2.5 gallons of gasoline left. This usually happens between 325-335 miles. I have consistenly been getting ~21mpg. To be safe I usually fill up by 350 mile mark. I only have ~9400 miles on the car though...

my 03 4 cylinder made it 490 miles on one tank. no joke. all highway miles. from cincinnati ohio to washington DC. I went straight to the gas station the next morning, but I am still very proud. I also passed the 10k mark a month ago.

Typically, a new engine won't run nearly as good as one with 20-30K miles. Kinda like a woman, need to break her in nice and good before she starts performing like she should.

Yah..i have bassically 15,000 miles on my car and i've hit 300 miles+ before the light came. This was mostly freeway driving with some stop and go around campus driving. Interestingly enough..my 6 only likes ARCO gas...

I'm glad to hear this. Did you notice a change in mpg when you changed the oil as well? I'm at 6,3xx and I haven't changed my oil yet due to time constraints. I'm looking forward to hearing the reply

I only have 3,2xx miles on the car. I think on my first few fill-ups I was getting 21 MPG on about a 60% highway, 40% city drive. My last two fill-ups have been 24 and 25 MPG. If what you guys say is true, I'll be hitting the advertised 27 MPG mark soon.

Wow, I'm glad I went with the 4 banger now. I only have 1,2xx miles on my car but the first time I filled up I averaged 27.9 and my second fill up was at 28.7 mpg. This is with about 60% city driving and 40% highway. Right now my trip says 377 miles and the gas guage is at 1/4 tank.

I wonder what mileage you V6 manual owners get in the average? I am a bit scary of a dramatic increase in fuel consumption since my actual car is a 4-cyl.

Got my 6s AT at the end of January this year. I have just passed 5K, with about 80% of that being on the freeway between 70-90 mph. I have noticed a steady milage rate of about 23 mpg and a range between 350-380 miles. Gas is $2.45 a gallon here in the SCV.

Got 29mpg on a trip to my parent's recently. All highway with cruise control set at 70(cops everywhere) and the A/C on in a 6s mtx with 10k.

Though it's usually much, much lower than that. Typically get around 21-22mpg with 80% highway miles. But that's with a lead foot on the interchanges and ramps and cruising around 80mph.

my car just hit 11,000 miles and i've noticed that since ive hit over 10,000 i can go about 450 mi avg on a tank, where before i was getting 300 if i was lucky....i dont really understand y its such a dramatic change since i am driving the same way i used to. but it sure is nice especially with the high gas prices!

I may have one of the higher mileage cars; it's fully broken in. I purchased my '03 the first week they were available in the States, November of 2002. I have 30,000+ miles on my car and I do mostly highway driving, about 85-mile daily roundtrip.

I consistently get 25-27 MPG, so I am pretty happy. BTW, it's a V6 with MTX.

About the same here, 26-27 mpg 90% freeway at 80-85 mph. I have over 25,000 miles on the clock so far in less than a year. To be honest, I haven't noticed a signifigant increase in mileage from new, maybe 1 mpg.

I took a trip to Kent yesterday. Filled up before I left, and went to the pump again today. I got 28.5 MPG on this trip. I have an S auto, so those are great numbers. I had 318 miles down and another 3/8 of a tank left till empty when I filled up. I hit 4000 miles on the trip, so hopefully this trend of better MPG as the car ages will continue
