Have a 2010 6i Is there a way to make it so I can turn my fog lights on even if my headlights aren't on? I leave the switch for my fogs on but if I turn my headlights off the fogs turn off too.

I have seen this thread: http://forum.mazda6club.com/electrical/140538-fog-light-mod-2.html but its for 1st gen 6's.

Will this work for a 2010?

Unfortunately, nobody has tried this yet. We need a willing Guinea Pig to attempt this and be willing to post up a DIY with pics?

Volunteers? :)

I'll be doing it once the warranty runs out on mine - unfortunately thats still a couple of years away !!!!
All you need to do is rewire the fogs direct to a fused source thru relay contacts that are controlled by the switch. You'll need to find the correct wires running up to the switch and isolate them. Then feed one of the wires with power and the other goes to the relay coil - they will be controlled directly from the switch.

Improvement 1 - make sure the feed for the switch is only hot while the key is on or else you could leave them on and drain the battery.
Improvement 2 - find a feed off the parking lights so at least your parking light have to be on for them to work - seen too many rice burners running with only fogs on and forgetting its gotten dark out and don't have any tail lights on.

if you still want the switch to work, then i have no new info for you. but if you want them on all the time. what you need to do is run a wire from the left peg of a fuse (usually the parking lamp), remove the fog relay, and run the wire from the fuse to the power spot of the relay. then your fogs are on whenever your parking lights are on. but it does render your fog light switch useless.

(all this is based off the 1g, but should be similar on the 2g)

Warning: the official Mazda wiring setup is basically a picture with no labels spanned across many pages.

You will still be spending some quality time with a multimeter trying to figure things out.

Hmm, fun stuff... Just out of curiosity, does anyone know why some car companies have the fogs set up so they only come on with headlights, and some are independent? The fogs on my Silverado can be turned on with just the parking lights.

I have DRLs on my truck too, but the fog lights in the bumper can be turned on and off, at my discretion, as long as the parking lights are on.

On my ford lightning i had the fog light with the corner light mod on it and it looks nice. My mechanic had to rewire some things and bam about 7 minutes later it was good

I haven't had the time to attempt this yet, has anyone else? I'm thinking i could probably use the signal wire thats normally connected to the headlights and connect it to the corner markers to cheat the fogs into being able to be turned on when the corner lights are on.

I'm in the process of buying a new house with a garage to work on my cars. I'm going to do this after I settle in.

I plan on it, I just haven't had the time. If anyone has any ideas about how to do this it would help.

I believe the way the fogs and headlights are wired is with a signal wire. If the headlights are on, the signal wire completes a circuit to allow the fogs to come on. If I move the signal wire from the headlights to the parking lights that should work. Provided the signal wiring system isn't voltage sensitive. Then again, I could be completely wrong about the way it's set up, and the mechanism that controls it is in the switch itself... Anyone know?
