After 3 weeks of emails to dealers, Mazda, and manufacturers, as well as a few phone calls to Mazda USA and manufacturers in Japan, I have a fix for the 'no manual mode' automatic transmission problem.

I've now been running this switch in my car for 3+ months with not one failure of engaging or staying in manual mode. It's also been in an '04 car for about 4 weeks now with no failures.

Per Mazda USA, you can NOT buy the switch separately from Mazda; it only comes as part of a full shifter assembly:"I was able to look into the concern that you are having with your vehicle. Unfortunately, the piece that you need is not available on its own. You would need to purchase the entire select lever." The two prices I was quoted by Mazda dealers was $175 for a popular online dealer, and $290 from a local dealer.

(My) switch is a direct replacement for the Mazda piece, which you cannot buy. And, as Yuki puts it on the OEM switch: "....(it) is a custom product for an exclusive customer. Therefore, we are unable to offer you this item."

So, I am selling a direct replacement switch for the first generation, automatic cars. It fits the 4, 5 and 6 speed cars. Because Mazda has never sold the part separately, I cannot tell you a part number. (And, along those lines, I've also been told it will work in other recent Mazdas with ActiveMatic shifters. With no part number I can't tell you for certain)

For $20 you get 1 switch, and that includes USPS Priority Mail 2-3 day shipping. If you need 2, it's $30. That is to the continental US. Canada and elsewhere will depend on what shipping costs and hassles there would be.

If your problem is that you physically put your shifter into the manual gate and your dash does not switch to Manual mode, or your car will not stay in manual mode when the shifter is physically in the gate, this is your fix.

This may or may not fix problems with the shifter not selecting the next gear up or down. See the 'Tiptronic stopped working' thread in the ATX section.

I'd prefer PayPal, but if you want to pay by check or money order, I can give you my address.

Karl, how long will you have these available? My Tiptronic has been "acting up" lately when I select it to go into Manual mode (stays in Automatic "D" mode)

I see you mention the 4 & 6 speeds, but mine is a 5-speed '04 V6... same switch for this one?

Thanks.

I bought several, so yes, I'll have some.

And yes, it should work for the 5 speed - I just forget that Mazda used 4, 5 and 6 speeds. When I was trying to find a new switch from Mazda, I was told they use the same switch. I didn't take that as 100% accurate until someone (here) and someone locally checked their 4 speeds and told me theirs had the same.

Hello

I still have switches available. Between a couple of volunteer gigs, summer time is busy time for me and I hadn't been on the board. Unfortunately I didn't realize my spam filter was blocking messages from the board and I didn't realize people were messaging me about (them).

If you need one, or have a question, just let me know, and sorry for the lack of response.

Thanks

Karl,

Do you still have these switches? My manual mode is acting up. It is hard to get the car to recognize that I put it in manual mode and it wil never down shift, only up shift.

Thanks

Yes, SeeMe, I do have a few left. Original supplier no longer carries them, but it looks like I've found a new place that will get them to me for about the same price, so no change in $ for Mazda6Club members. (I do throw them on Craigslist and Ebay now and then, but for $5 or $10 more.)

If you don't mind PayPal, my email is [email protected], and the price for Mazda6Club members, or even 6Crew members, is $20. That includes USPS Priority mailing. If you prefer to send me a check, PM me and I'll give you my address.

Thanks!

I'll bump it again myself.

One year in my car with no issues; no word of complaint from others. My original source of switches no longer has them, but I've found a new place and the difference is so low that I won't bump the price.

Switch was sent - payment received on 11-17, switch sent on 12-1. Downloaded $ from Paypal and simply forgot. $5 refunded back to backroad101.

I do still have switches. Still $20 - still includes USPS Express shipping.

I was recently asked about new actuation levers. I don't have them and do not know if I can get them. The only reason I can get the switch is because a guy at the manufacturer gave me the specific part # to order to bypass the switch being licensed as Mazda-only use. I am attempting to find-out about new levers. I'm guessing I won't hear back from my 'friend' until middle of next week.

I've had a couple of people ask in last week- yes, I do have switches. Prices have stayed the same - shipping still included.

Isn't there a write up somewhere on how to do replace this switch?

Hey backroad. I've got some pics I'd thrown together.

Where are they posted? I remember seeing something back when I bought the switch from you but now can't seem to find it.
