Mazda6 sold 2700 units in Feburary, only a slight increase over January sales. I'm a bit concerned this car is not becoming the cash cow Mazda needs it to become. At 3000 sales a month, Mazda is going to have a hard time breaking 40,000 sales a year, much less the desired 80,000.

With this car being such a hit overseas, what is wrong in the United States? This car has garnered much praise, has won many awards for best in class, yet the sales don't seem to reflect this enthusiasm.

I'm a bit concerned Mazda is not making the money they need to with the 6.

This has been discussed. How can anyone be surprised?

It's f*cking February...for a new model only out for 60 days... that people still think is the MX-6. War (was) looming...the economy is in the toilet...consumer confidence finally took a nose-dive. The Winter has been the harshest in the last 5-10 years for the most densley populated areas of the country...

Do I really need to go on? Any ONE of these developments would be reason enough for slow sales.

As with anything, business is very cyclical and February is as close to the bottom of the cycle as you'll ever get. Using February numbers is like predicting lawn mower sales in June based on November figures.

Besides - I've got my car. It's not my concern if the rest of the country decides to follow the crowd & buy the Cam-cord-ima. I really don't care if they sell one car more as long as they continue to service and support mine. That would make the 6 not just a value, but a very exclusive car to own.

Yeah. Mine will be one of 3 in the Atlantic provinces of Canada with this trim and color. The only one of such in Newfoundland. That's exclusive enough for me.

But yes, you are very right in you outlook Ruefus. February is not the time for car sales. Just go out to any dealership and it's far from busting with prospects. I think, as does the dealership here in town, that, once the snow goes and people start looking again, this will be a big seller.

I know that a fair number of people are waiting on the hatch and wagon, myself included. Besides that, the V6 5speed needs an mpg improvement of 2 or 3 to be more competitive. I think that is more important than the 20hp gap to catch the Accord V6.

Dunno about the rest of you, but I never once considered mileage ratings as a component of my buying decision. They're all pretty decent. If mileage is of high importance, this is the wrong class of car to be considering anyway.

Was never a concern of mine anyways. Gas is 91.6 a liter here now anyways. If you can afford gas in the first place...

...for good reason. in a letter i just received two days ago, from mazda america:

"thank you for your recent purchase of the mazda mx-6..."

my insurance company also lists it as an mx-6, because there's no other designation for it.

all this talk about sales figures....i'm kinda happy being one in a select few that own the car...as long as the parts the service, and the assistance is still there from mazda, i don't mind being one of the few.

Just FYI - My insurance company knew exactly what the car was and how to designate it.

I'm pretty sure there are many factors as listed above that have contributed to the slow sales. I know weather was a big deal (at least for us in the NE) and I put off buying mine until I was relatively sure all of the big snow storms were over. Once this whole war business is over (hopefully promptly) and better weather arrives, and some other various factors, I am sure that more 6's and cars like it will sell. Mazda truely created a great car, and I know everyone who has seen mine has told me they would seriously consider buying one...

Yeah mine says Mz6 too, I had to look at it twice.

Even in So Cal. I have only seen one other 6. I think most people here are buying the Nissan Altima. Thats all I see with paper plates on them.

I do get a lot of double takes as people drive by me! I have had alot compliments on my 6 though.

Why does everybody list this car as the Mazda Mazda6? That's like calling a BMW a BMW BMW325i, or an Acura an Acura AcuraRSX. It's redundant and kinda stupid. It's a 6, just a 6, not a Mazda6.

I always thought of the 6 as the "6". The model name is "6", then there are the variants 6i or 6S. The maker is Mazda the car is 6, yes it is a "Mazda 6".
