A few questions on this subject...does the factory stereo play mp3s? is there an aux input on the factory stereo?

About the navigation system...is there anywhere I can find more information on it specifically its features? like can I map a destination, search for resturants, etc?

No and No.. if you go to therpmstore.com there is audiolink you hook up to back of you steroe to hook up an ipod / ect. I'd call them before ordering it though to see how much is involved :)

navi system you can map a destinaction and search for resturants... like put in Chili's and you city and you should get all the ones in your city... you can also select poitns of interest, like parking garages etc. but when you do resturants as a POI you can select the type of food but when it shows up on the map it doesn't say which place it is, unless i didn't figure out how to do it.

sorry for bad tyuping about to leave gfor work.

also, navi system will caculate your route time by how fast you are going and give you an estimate when you will get there and how many miles you have to go by using the route they give you.

The navigation feature sounds cool I never had in car navigation but it would be handy on trips. How hard is it to replace the stock head unit? I'm very good with car audio so the work doesnt bother me it just looks strange b/c the readout doesnt appear to be on the head unit its a separate unit, least it looks that way in the pics

The audio headunit can't be replaced without extensive custom fabrication. The navigation system is not tied to the audio system, except in that its audio output is routed to the front left speaker of the audio system.

The DVD-ROM-based navigation unit is located in the trunk. It's about the size of a single-din CD player. The navigation display LCD monitor (not a touch-screen) replaces an empty storage bin on the top of the dash. You interface with the system using a hand-held remote that clips into the center console beside the shift lever.

It's not the most user-friendly and intuitive navigation system I've used. In fact, it's actually a really bad alternative to the Acura navigation system I experimented with before I purchased the MS6.

There is no voice commands which really suck, but if you go into the diagnostics for it one part says that a mic is not hooked up as if maybe you can set it up for that, but i'm guessing you'd have to get differant software version maybe??

Anyways, like the guy before me, its not that advanced, i just liked it because it was tied into the dash, you could spend less than 2k and get and probably get a way better one and just put it in the dash where the built in one is.

My friends honda was nice, has voice prompts/commands etc.

So is it a general feeling around here to pass on the navigation? I'm also looking at the TL and that navigation system is very nice

Nav on TL Acura right? Those are nice and in honda. I mean the Nav system in the speed does its purpose, its not all fancy though and its not worth 2k imo even though I like it. But I got it because it was built into the dash already.

I've been playing with the idea of the clarion max675vd. its a double din touch screen that supports dual zone data, is ipod video & nav ready, and supports a data link to still use the steering wheel controls . Also i wanted to splice in a navtv unit and replace the existing nav system with pioneer, everyone says they make the best and most detailed. The idea of all this is to use the head unit as a touch nav system and send the guidence video to the existing nav display, thats why the navtv, and still have the head unit free on another zone for scrolling through ipod play lists or what evers on the sat. Does anyone see a problem with this set-up?

Did you see the small navi book that comes with the manual? It mentions that there are voice commands. It also mentions you hit a button on the steering wheel (if equiped) and then speak your command. I cant find any other info about this, even called mazda and they knew nothing about it. Not sure if this is for another version of the nav system or not. I called my salesman and he said he would look into it, but he knew nothing about the car when I bought it 3 months ago

Small Navi book? I did not get one. Does it by chance indicate how to display speed on the screen? I have another thread running on this topic, but it seems you have something I've not heard of before, a seperate manual for the navi.

Tell us more about the voice section. Could you perhaps scan the booklet to a pdf and post????

Thanks

Let's not forget that these cars are selling much below sticker. The cost of the nav is offset by that fact. You are certaintly not going to walk into an acura dealer and get a tsx for 5-6k off sticker. When I bought my car I was dealing on two cars, one with nav and one without. The difference in final price was definately NOT $2k. :)

I have a 2006 Mazda 6 with built in Nav. It does have voice commands, hitting the "Speak" button on the steering column turns off the radio/CD player so you can speak your command to the mike located on the top headboard just forward of of the power moonroof on my car.

The navigation isn't as slick as some others, my firlfriend bought a new Toyota Prius; the display is much sharper, and generally better at finding points of interest.

There sint' alot of sites that mention the Mazda's with built in NAV, although I'd like to get an updated DVD with newer maps, etc. I spoke with dealer parts dept. and they can't rememebr ever having an updated dvd.

Anybody know revision levels, manufacturer of NAV, map rev levels, etc?
