In Canada (and I am sure it is the same in the US); Mazda offers an extended warranty to cover up to 7 years or 100,000miles/160,000km. The cost of this (according to the dealer) is about $1500Cdn or about $1000 US.

Do you think this warranty is worth it? Would it increase the resale value much?

Reading Topic: Extended Warranty

Mazdas are pretty darn reliable. I know my Ford Probe (Mazda MX-6 in Ford sheet metal) never needed $1,000 in repairs after the warranty was over, and i drove it for over 10 years.

It's gambling. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money. Plus $1,000 now is worth a lot more than $1,000 six years from now. :)

Also, pay close attention to the coverage. Often the extended warranty doesn't cover as much as the factory warranties. And the stuff that's not covered is the stuff that's likely to get hit by wear and tear as the car ages.
