Hey everybody! Been browsing around a while but havn't posted anything. Thought I'd share a couple pics of my new exhaust setup since i know there aren't that many options for those who don't want to shell out $500+ for a bolt on setup. I just went with the muffler deletion, and it didn't turn out too bad. I've cut mufflers off a number of 4 cylinder cars and they often sound like sh## afterwards, but the Speed actually has a pretty nice sound. Also, with this setup, if i drive gently i can't even hear it on the highway, no drone or annoying noise, but if i down shift and put my foot down it will rattle the change in the cup holders. Sorry for the blurry phone pics:

Driver side:

Tip in the surround:

Required 2 x 90 elbows, 2 x 16" (i think) straight pieces, and 4 x weld on hangers. I reused the stock flanges and just welded new pipe to them, took about an hour. Pulled the stock muffles and supported exhaust at the T with a jack. Cut off the flanges and bolted them back in place. Then i tacked the pipe together on the car to get the tips centered right, pulled the pipe off the car to finish the welds, the bolted everything back on and welded the hangers in place. Took out the jack and everything stayed nice and lined up.

And just one pic of the car for fun, because the 6 is sexy:

Have basically the same setup on mine except I had it done at the local muffler shop (not a chain). I think they charged me about $100 to bend a couple of pipes, weld the flanges on and install. He also took his time getting the outlets centered. Good guy!! I did the same thing to my last car 1990 Mazda GT turbo ( only single exhaust ) and liked it. The only time I think it's a bit too loud is when I start it up first thing in the morning. Other than that I like it. And I can swap it out for the stocks in about 10 min if I ever want to.

Maybe mandrel bends instead of crush next time?!
But, a good route to take for a little extra note.

With stock cat and pipe up to the T i don't think the bends are hurting me too much, but mostly none of the places with mandrel bends were open that day. I don't like waiting :p

No, I'm sure you're right. There's no performance hinderance.
But, it'd look better!
When you get the finaces, take this route:

Looks SWEET polished up and seen shining from behind and underneath the car. :)

Finally recorded a sound clip!

I know its not a shiny expensive setup but its not always a matter of price! I chose to spend my money on a 3000sq/ft shop so i could make all my own ratty lookin' rigs. i enjoy the hobby more that way, but to each his own :D

I applaud ingenuity, making things work. Good stuff.
I just hope the COPS are as appreciative as I am.

Not bad, sounds good for a cheap DIY mod.
