I don't want the whole y-pipe and mufflers, i just want to replace the mufflers themselves with something else.

so basically an "axelback" setup.

Anything that fits up to our stuff that doesn't restrict and muffle as much? thanks.

Cut off the mufflers. Go on ebay, buy a 5 foot section of 3" or 2.5" stainless steel piping ($40-$50) and weld it on or have a friend or midus weld it on. That would be the cheapest route.

I wish i would have kept my Dynomax Ultraflo SS to try on this car. There a quiet exhaust but one of the best flowing exhaust on the market!

I think my Bassani BX mufflers would sound awesome on the speed.

Does anyone know the dimensions of our stock mufflers??

I am putting the stock cat back back on. Going the oposite direction. Strait pipe with no mufflers will be stupid loud.

I wonder if you took out the stock mufflers and put a Resonator in place of each one how it would sound.

I had the local muffler shop unbolt the stocks and bend up stock tubing. I had them put the flanges on so I could just unbolt it and put the stocks back on... Never did...
A bit much 1st thing in the morning in my garage but after that no problem. I did the same thing on my 1990 Mazda GT 5door I had before I bought the Speed...

Even with the smaller diameter OE exhaust piping, it'd still be very loud just replacing the stock mufflers with straight pipe.
Those mufflers work incredibly well.
Resonators might make it more tolerable.
But, in my mind, the absolute most sensible setup, as for as low volume and drone, is an aftermarket DP bolted to the factory cat back. Or, any other variation that keeps the stock mufflers in the flow, with an aftermarket DP. I've heard a CPE DP with both stock mufflers and it sounds great under WOT, while staying very reasonable under cruise and low load.

There's PLENTY of good muffler shops in Tampa. Mad Hatter Muffler is the first that comes to mind. Go there, tell them what you want, and they should take care of you, and for a pretty good price too. Since you're not wanting to go with a full blown aftermarket exhaust, I'd just have em install a smoother "Y" pipe (the factory is more like a "T"), muffler of your choice, and have them weld them and the extra piping and call it a day. Mufflers will run your price up a little bit, but it'd be a whole lot better performing and sounding than stock.

lol if you do a search on TR, i asked about them a while back.

just tossing some ideas around in my head.

Rhoad -- do you know who is a "the vibe" around tampa? has a nice BM MS6. my car is like the more stock version of it, lol. I see him at my local publix all the time, but never seen him.

Replacing the stock mufflers with a Corksport 3" CBE yielded me zero gain in peak flow. You will probably see a little earlier spool though with the CS 3" or other high flow CBE.

The stock K04 is a bigger restriction than the stock mufflers. I'm having Borla Pro XS mufflers swapped for the Corksport mufflers this week. I'm keeping the very nice CS piping and smooth 'Y' section. I swapped the mufflers including the flanges so can swap the CS mufflers back in for a track or dyno day after I get the 3071 in.

The CS exhaust was too loud for my taste. It sounds sweet. I love the tone just too many dB for me. I have a 3" catless DP with a resonator where the 2nd cat should be and another resonator in the 3" straight pipe between the cat flange and the 'Y' pipe.

I got my car back today with the Borla Pro XS 3" mufflers. They are quite a bit quieter than the CorkSport mufflers, but they still sound good. It's a great setup for my ears.
