Hey guys, its been a LONG time since I have posted, but I had a question about my speed6.

I had a friend point out that my front passenger tire was worn. After inspecting it, yes, it was down to the wear bars while the other 3 were not. The others are close, but no where near where this one is. I rotated it to the back to get at least home, but I'm confused if I need an alignment or if something else is wrong. These tires have only about 20000 miles on them.

It does seem like the outside tread is a little more worn than the inside, but not a ton. The local shop wants $100 bucks to align it, but I think I need some new tires too. Is this as simple as an alignment or are there other problems?

I asked my dad if I could get by till winter and he said "I wouldnt even drive home on those"..... <_<

I dont abuse my car by any means. I barely even drive it (got it new in 2005 and only have 21XXX miles on it...)

Also, for another question, what tires do you reccomend for the stock wheels? I have Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S now, but they clearly dont last too long...

thanks guys. good to be back.

21k is not bad for this car if you are running stock suspension. The camber is not adjustable on the front and the alignment from the factory sucked.

What worked for me was lowering the car, I got RPM sport springs. They lower about .5" to .75" and a good alignment. I have about -0.8 degrees now up front from the springs, they added about -.04 degrees. Since camber is not adjustable, you will need to have them watch toe. I've got 24k miles on my goodyear F1-AS and may be able to get another 10k out of them. If you don't want to lower, others will recommend some SPC adjustable ball joints to adjust the front camber. I bought a pair and then sold them as I'm happy with my tire wear now.

The stock bridgestones were bald on the outside and just at the wear bars on the inside when I had to get new tires, this was at 21k miles. The car ate the outer 2" off the front wheels.

very interesting. I will have to look at the Good Year's when I call up the tire barn.

If getting the RPM springs and a good alignment adds that much to the mileage, it would be worth it to me, plus getting the benefit of a lowered look would be nice.

I was just hoping it wasnt going to be something that was going to cost thousands because I just ran out of warranty last year.

If anyone else has suggestions, I'd be very interested.

I will get me the spc ball joints and rpm's/yellows very soon. Not only my tires will last way longer, but the handling improvement will be a very niceplus I really hate how much this car understeers, and having 0 degree camber on the front is partly to blame.

I think it comes down to what you want or expect out of your car. Simply, what do you do with it? or want to do with it. Daily driver in a mostly straight line or autocross killer?

Indeed, the factory alignment was poor and I'd say you got one of the better ones. Springs should get as much as -.5 additional negative camber depending on the drop, and that can and will vary widely from car to car. Alignment is still only "toe-n-go" at this point.

Adding SPC adj. Ball Joints to the party gives you adjustable camber. Personally, I think this is a good thing. I have a twisty world, and my alignment is set to take advantage of it at an aggressive -2/-1.5 camber f/r and 0 toe with great tire wear.

If you run the highway more than anything else, you may choose a much more conservative set of specs, maybe in the -1 to -1.2 range. I suspect, more importantly for you, is that only one tire is wearing. Lowering may correct the wear on the current problem corner, but cause an inner wear problem on a different corner.

Anyway, no SPC's, no choice in adjustment is my point.

I'm having the same problem with my front tires. Terrible wear on the outer 2" but the middle is great. in fact, the outside lips are almost slick... then again I do like to take corners a bit. Still, in my 5k miles that I've had the car, they shouldn't be going that quick. they are Toyo Proxes T1R's so they don't wear THAT fast. First mods will be: SPC ball joints, H&R Coilovers ( most likely ) and new set of tires

Well, I just ordered some Eagle F1 A/S C's. $135 each mounted/balanced/blah blah blah. Hoping they last longer than the Pirelli's. Some other places around me wanted anywhere from 160-230 per tire. Right now, unfortunately, my speed is just a way to get to work and then home. Hope that changes "someday", but then, CCR has something to say about that.

I'll have to look into the springs next spring (no pun intended) as the winters can SUCK here in the Midwest. that little of a drop can make a difference in thick snow.

Also the Goodyear's have a $80 MIR ($160 with Goodyear credit card), so that will help.
