Have you checked the fuse(s) for the sensor heater?

The heater needs to warm up the lambda sensor so it can work when the computer needs it to.
If the heater is not working, which can happen if water enters the connector or the wiring has become abraded, a fuse may blow of the sensor heater will fail to work entirely.
If the sensor does not heat quick enough the computer will report a sensor malfunction (sometimes as P0134)

I do not have a Mk.2 Mazda6 or a 4cyl for that matter but I am extrapolating what I know from the Mazda3 and Subaru 2.2/2.5.

First I would check the fuses for the lambda heater.
Second I would visually inspect the connector and wiring harness for the sensor.
Third I would test each sensor circuit for continuity.
After that its into the bin. Only kidding.
Good luck.
