I have a 2005 Mazda6 2.0l UK spec (facelift if that matters). It has developed a wierd electrical problem that varies depending on the cars mood. On a good day the car runs fine until you use any of the high electrical load items, ie the heated rear screen. When this is switched on the displays dim before recover after about a second. When you apply the brakes the same happens.

At it's worst it if you put the lights on main beam the engine almost stalls and has misfired. When bad the engine also draws more volts then the system can generate causing the lights to dim.

Today it did something new, the idle speed dropped to about 500 but the PCM managed to save a stall.

I've already replaced the battery and alternator.

Any ideas or has anyone else experienced similar problems?

in my limited mechanical range of knowledge, i'd say your car isn't able to handle the electrical charge for running more than the engine. but since you've already replaced the battery and alternator, i have no other ideas.

btw, was the alternator new or used/rebuilt.
