Hey I’m new here and not sure where this should be posted. My car was bought in CANADA (and still is in Canada).

I drive a [ 2017 Mazda 6 GS ]
it comes with the heated steering wheel (and hands free componenets) and I believe it has the G vector steering thing they added in 2017.

There a handful of small issues ive had with my steering for the last 2 yrs and Ive had my wheels balanced, alignments and even new rims rotos and the whole 9. The mechanics wont listen to me and they keep saying its some BS with my tires but its not.

1.)when making a turn more than 1/4 my wheel will not centre itself and I have to physically centre it myself

2.) My wheel will shudder/bounce slightly at varying highway speeds, this gets worse on long bends around 15° to 30°

3.) Despite everyone saying the EPS (electric power steering) makes steering very “floaty” and agile. I have to muscle my steering wheel when making any right or left turn with substantial force.

4.) When driving at highway speeds my car is VERY touchy within the first 5° making my car swerve when hitting bumps. Correcting this is very difficult because once I turn more than 5° my wheel becomes VERY stiff again and also does not return to centre properly.

5.) The stiffness in my steering wheel is also not linear, there certain spots within the 540° where its suddenly NOT stiff.

The best way I can describe this issue is that it feels like im pushing my steering wheel through a bunch of thick and inconsistent sludge, my wheel will stick in certain areas and not return to centre despite it actually trying too but the tension is too great.

I would love for this to be some sort of power steering fluid issue but to my suprise the car doesnt have any at because the steering is fully electric, despite all of these issues sounding like low fluid.

if anyone can help id be extremely grateful, thank you

Blake, please start with reading the following thread on Mazda3Revolution... and in particular view post #7, after reading the thread from the beginning. Hopefully the url will go to the OP's initial thread. Please speak up if it does not, and maybe I can help. At the least, use the thread topic (or maybe the first few words of the thread text) to search on Mazda3Revolution to try to find the thread first...

Not having the same safety nannies, I wonder if you can turn off ALL the safety nannies on yours? Removing the input might help narrow down a culprit.

Or I may be totally wrong lol.

Check the steering shaft, make sure the U-joints arent seized. This can cause the stiffness, but EPS has nothing to do with the wheels shuddering or bouncing.

I agree with you, Talon, re the u joints, and I don't think EPAS could cause wheels to bounce, but as to other strangeness - in the absence of other more likely actors, well, EPAS can sometimes (but rarely) cause strangeness, as you'll recall I've maintained beforehand.

BTW, is the link I've pasted above operative, or does it go to strange places?

No, its working. I read the first post and i felt that feeling on the stock suspension and shitty Tiger Paws after a couple years on them. It went away when i went with the Conti's. The rear end felt really light no matter what i did. Nothing in the front end. Part of me wonders if the rear shocks arent stiff enough to control the float you can get from a low tank of gas.

The only time I’ve seen something similar to this is twice on cars (not Mazdas) that have had serious front end collisions, both times cosmetically well repaired but front end geometry not brought back to factory spec … solution was a specialist body shop with full subframe and body alignment rack pulling it back into proper dimension, horizontally, longitudinally and diagonally … big and painstaking process… may not be the issue here but it’s only time I’ve seen it … has this car been in a collision???

@Blake98 Issue #4 is what forced me to trade my 2015 Touring.

The slightest input would have it darting in the direction of the turn, while on the highway the car would drift left or right without any steering input.

Took it to the dealer for an alignment, didn't resolve, took it back and they couldn't find anything wrong.

Took it to an independent shop for alignment and inspection, result was the same. It got to the point where the car felt unsafe so I traded in for an Accord. The Accord is NOT an upgrade.
