Reading Topic: Double Cone Synchronizer?
Makes shifting fast an easier (or even possible) task. Reduces crunching upshifts when speedshifting. Unfortunately, only first and second gear have double-cone synchros. I would have at least expected third to as well, but mazda claims that they use a "more robust" carbon (I think) synchro due to the "higher loads" experienced in higher gears. Yeah, if people don't know when to shift, I guess...
The RX-8 for the record has triple-cone synchros- I think on the first three or four gears. They dont seem to be using the same argument there (then again it's a lighter car with less torque).
