Yes, I also agree that a simple modification in your car is not going to void the warranty. However, if you are going for major changes like body shape and other exterior works, then it many void the warranty.
That's not right!
Body work should not void drive terrain warranty, how would you taking off the bumper cause the engine to have a problems.
Mechanical mods is where warranty is threatened!

Lost warranty. TMIC and CAI blamed for engine malfunctioning. Took it to a mechanic friend to find that some screws in the throttle body had come loose. tightened em up and car worked perfect. Mazda refused to give me back warranty, said i Lost it for having aftermarket parts.

Ouch. Is that specific to one dealer or did they perma-ban your VIN? Wondering if you can go to a different dealer and try your luck there. Assuming that you wrote your letter to Mazda USA and not to your Mazda dealership?

So a CAI or SRI would void my warranty?

Different from.dealer to dealer
Most cases they will void the warranty if your mod can even remotely cause the issue
Say you install a CAI and you engine blows cause it running lean/rich they will cancel the warranty no matter if it was caused by the CAI or not
If you add some LEDs here or there you should be fine
Depends on the mod and the issue that needs to be addressed

how would they know?
That's what I was wondering. If they weren't able to know, I could just switch it back to stock before going into the dealership right?

The dealership knows if you changed the cai even if you replace the aftermarket one with stock and take it back. As i recall a friend of mine who is a mechanic for mazda says they coat something on the stock box connections so that it forms some kind of seal, when said seal is broken it is noticeable to the dealer and unknown to you. Once you break the bolts on the stock box and remove it they got you if something in that realm goes wrong warranty denied.

It may vary based on your relationship with your dealer as well. I had my SRI installed when my turbo went all smokey on me. I called and was explaining the problem and she said " If you have anything that needs to go back on that might prohibit your warranty I would suggest doing that before bringing it in" I thought that was pretty legit. and after seeing the $2,200 bill I was happy I had a warranty

True as with anything there are exceptions to any rule and note to self "stay cool with your servicing dealer"!
