I had an MOT done the other day on my Mazda 6 (Hatchback 2002-8), and it failed because the front drivers side wheel baring had excessive play. I haven't had any noise coming from it or problems, although the tyre had a slow puncture recently which was repaired a few weeks ago.

Is it normal to have to completely replace the wheel bearings if there is excessive play? The cost was a bit of a shock :shocked: that's all!

Ummmm, yes. What do you think can happen as a result of "excessive play"? I'll give you a hint (see below).
